Fandoms are always exploding with something new. Whether or not its good things they're exploding over is questionable, admittedly. This time around, not so much. Since the ending days of Warped tour, people have been taking cracks at Kellin Quinn for suddenly saying they were charging $80 for a meet and greet on their upcoming tour. Fans and bands around them were outraged, and making comments to and about Kellin. Oli Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon was one of them, and for some stupid reason, this has spurred a whole big fight between the two of them, and the fandoms. What is this? High school? Seriously, cut this out. You're grown men, not kids. Act like it. I'm personally not taking sides. What's the point in that? There's no need to make this World War III, people. So they, as artists are having creative differences, and so what if they're making comments at one another that fans don't really like. They live their own lives, stay out of it. Frankly, I kind of wonder if some of their banter is literally nothing more than that. Especially when Oli got a tattoo of a feather on his face, and Kellin tweeted about it. I think it was a joke for two reasons. 1) Just the way he said it, I took it in a joking manner. 2) Oli retweeted it. If he was annoyed by it, he wouldn't have retweeted it, he probably would have complained about it. He never complained about it, as far as I can see from Oli's twitter. Kellin went on to say a few things that frankly, I agree with in later tweets. "Listen to what you want to listen to...Bands are allowed to talk shit to each other just as much as you're allowed to talk shit to us.." This is true. You know how you make backhanded comments to your friends and family? Its the same deal. I think people sometimes forget that bands are real people, and will not always behave the way you want them too. They're not perfect, and things they say do still get taken wrong.
He also tweeted; "I respect Bring Me, they make good music, I'm allowed to talk some shit if I want.. So can @olobersyko no need to make a war between bands." and "I'm sick of this shit.. I am so thankful to anyone that shows up to shows and supports us.. I go out of my way to do so much for my fans." which was followed by, "If you feel differently then there's the door.. I'm done justifying myself ;) thanks to the true SWS fans.. Fuck the rest." First, I have to say it amused me that he quoted his own song to defend himself. That was a great way to do that. Now, I do have to say this, if people hadn't decided to put their two cents in, he wouldn't have had to defend himself. I've seen nothing from Oli, and I am sure he has had people bitching at him some too, but he's kept his mouth shut. Which is respectable, but I'm not saying Kellin is wrong to defend himself and want to clear the air some. People have been calling him an asshole and all sorts of other names since Warped tour was nearing an end, all over a meet and greet. I haven't said too much about this, but I guess now is the perfect time to do so. It is slightly messed up, yes. Go from free or cheap meet and greets to $80, and its mostly all about Kellin. That is wrong, just for the fact that there's more to the band than just Kellin, but just because it seems to revolve around him doesn't mean it was Kellin's idea. Most of the time, the band has no say so in prices or anything like that, that's the management's doing. They can try to argue it, but they usually don't win that fight. The management is probably trying to see how much Kellin is worth, and for some reason they're latching onto the fact that he is the most popular member, and are trying to milk that. Why? I don't know, I am not their management company. If you don't want to pay it, don't. Nobody is making you, and frankly, if it doesn't work out, this deal will never be set up again. Its simple. Also, I've heard of worse meet and greet prices. Some up to $1000 even. Not for bands that are still in their smaller venue days, but such prices do exist. On top of that, it does include a ticket to the show, which is about $30 (I'm guessing) on its own, a poster which is normally $10 at the merch table, early admission to the show, which you can't even buy normally, a signing with the whole band and a meet and greet. When you break it down, it is more logical than it looks. No, its still not cheap, but it makes more sense. My main point is, don't attack a band member for something that's probably out of their control. Most of the time too, they can't admit that its not their doing. The management is there, and its there behind every band but they're hidden, and like it that way. Its just a proven fact. Everyone needs to stop going on about this drama, they really do. The fans are what are making it dramatic, I have to say. If nobody picked sides, or yelled at the bands over Twitter, this whole thing would go away probably. Chances are, its not even a fight between the bands anymore, its just the fans. Drama sucks, we all know this, so please cut it out. This is just how I feel about it. I think its all stupid, really.
