It really doesn't feel like its been five years since Five Finger Death Punch released their third studio album, American Capitalist. We also could have sworn we did a review of this before, but it appears as though we somehow did not. Time sure does fly, because while it doesn't feel that way at all, they did release it on October 11, 2011, and we somehow did not review it. The album got massive success almost instantly. It sold more than 90,000 copies in the first week, and debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200. Fans loved it from the start, with the lead single, "Under And Over It", and the love did not stop there. They had several singles for the album, all of which did fabulously, but a couple of them are personal favorites. First there's "Remember Everything", which was announced to be a single in November 2011. The song is a letter to front man, Ivan Moody's family, as he reflects on everything. Some of it is good, some of it is not. We hear him expressing his love for his mother, his insecurities with his father, and him begging his siblings to forgive him for never being there. Its actually a rather sad song, but its incredibly beautiful and will forever be a favorite. "Its a long and lonely road when you know you walk alone." On the completely opposite scale, there is the last single from the album, "The Pride." It wasn't announced as a single until a little over a year after the album's release but we loved it from the first time we heard it. Its heavy, and fun, and about standing up and making something of yourself. The lyrics do the talking for us, "I will not be forgotten, this is my time to shine. I've got the scars to prove that only the strong survive." Whatever you want to do in life, you can do it. That song empowers fans in a very fun way, that you probably have already heard at this point and love. If you somehow haven't heard "The Pride", or the rest of the album, we highly recommend you fix that right away. We also recommend you check out the rest of Five Finger Death Punch, including the three albums they've released after this album. There's Wrong Side Of Heaven and The RIghteous Side of Hell Part One and Two, and most recently Got Your Six. All of their work is incredible and we encourage you to listen to all of their work. Maybe it will get you excited for everything 5FDP has coming up very soon. Their fun starts this April, when they go down under to play several different shows all around Australia. They will be in April from the 15th through the 25th, and then five days later they kick off The Loudest Month ever here in the US. They will be playing Fort Rock on April 30, and Welcome To Rockville May 1, and then do a four date tour with Shinedown in Indiana, Michigan, Virgina and Pittsburgh. They get a couple weeks off and then will also be performing at the 10th Annual Rock On The Range, Rock'n Derby and Rocklahoma. They also will be playing several festivals all over Europe, such as the Provinssi Rock Fest in Finland, Bråvalla Festival in Sweden, With Full Force Festival in Germany, Rock For People in the Czech Republic, Two Days A Week Festival in Austria, Jarocin Festival 2016 in Poland, and several more! For more information, please visit the respective festival websites and Five Finger Death Punch's official website.

Resolution is Lamb Of God's 7th Studio album, and the 4th that they've produced through Epic Records. The album came out on January 24, 2012, and did very well success wise. It reached number 3 on the Billboard 200 charts and sold 52,000 copies in its first week alone, nearly matching the success of their previous album, Wrath, which peaked at number 2 on the charts. "Ghost Walking" was the first single that was released for the album, and is definitely everything a fan of Lamb Of God would expect. While the band knows what fans expect of them, they know how to not only deliver on that expectation, and raise the bar just a bit higher. Muscally speaking, the guitar riffs are incredible, and so are the solos. The guitar, bass and drums with the vocals, all blend perfectly and that sometimes can be difficult to do. We would highly recommend this album, especially if you are a fan of Pantera. We get a similar vibe from this album in particular, and would love to hear what others think as well! We also would like to point out that the drums throughout the entire album are definitely unreleting, and this is their most confident sounding album yet. "Invictus" was definitely the most lyrically compelling song on the whole record. Some may feel like Lamb Of God is repeating themselves just a bit, when they hear this album compared to their previous releases, but we feel like they're simply expanding on their own very unique sound. That alone is something to admire. Be sure to let us know what you think of this album, and other works from Lamb of God in the comments below or over on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. While you're at it, head on over to Lamb Of God's official website to keep up to date with everything they're currently up to. They have a lot coming up in the next couple of months, like festival appearances and a tour. They will be going out on tour with Clutch and Corrosion of Conformity May 3, through June 7, and will be performing at Fort Rock, Welcome To Rockville,Carolina Rebellion, Rock On The Range,Northern Invasion, Rock'n Derby, and Bonnaroo. Further information can be found on each respective festival website, and of course on Lamb Of God's website as well! Hard Rock band, Red Sun Rising released their second full length album, Polyester Zeal on August 5, 2015. The album peaked at 41 on the US Billboard Rock Albums, and they released the lead single, "The Otherside" two days after the album's release.
We can definitely see why they chose "The Otherside" as a single, because it is incredibly beautiful. Its sad, but very well done. They're looking back at things as they're falling apart and questioning why it happened. But slowly you start to work out the grief of a lost love and start feeling sane again. We're not describing it well, but you can hear the emotion in his voice and we recommend you listen to it for yourself. Speaking of the singer, he has a very unique voice that we really enjoy. He portrays each song, with each different meaning completely different. Some are quite catchy and upbeat, while others are a bit more melodic and heartfelt. Such as, "Emotionless", which would be the perfect song to send to someone when they're feeling down and like they don't matter. Whenever someone feels that way, there's generally someone who's just trying to make that person see how they see them. This song portrays that beautifully. Then there's songs like, "Amnesia", which seems to be about living in the moment. "Life should be touched, not choked to death." Sometimes you just need to live in the moment, and enjoy what's currently there. This album is beautiful and we highly recommend it. You can get it wherever music is sold and you can catch Red Sun Rising live at the 98 Rockfest, Welcome To Rockville, Fort Rock, Carolina Rebellion, and Rock On The Range coming up this May! For further information, please check out the festival websites or Red Sun Rising's official website. American punk rock band, Pennywise released their tenth album in 2012. The album is called All Or Nothing and was released on May 1, 2012, and it is far from their most recent release. They released another album in 2014, and a review of that is coming very soon, but for now we're going to talk about this one. Something interesting about this album is it is the only one to not feature the original singer of the band, Jim Lindberg. Jim departed from the band in 2009 to work on other projects, they brought in Zoli Téglás. The album did fairly well, as it debuted at number 55 on Canadian album charts, though we cannot seem to find how it did anywhere else. The title track, and lead single, "All Or Nothing" came out on March 7, 2012, and opens the album very well. It has a vibe similar to The Offspring to it, and is extremely punk rock in not only tone but the lyrics. It seems to be about questioning the world, while conquering your goals and constantly growing. The entire album seems to be about life. Its about pushing through and living the best life you can live. This is what punk rock truly is! Its not the stereotypical, 'fuck the government' bullshit, its about being a hundred percent yourself and doing what makes you happy. This album is awesome, and we think we're going to have to look into Pennywise a bit more. Be sure to check Pennywise out, and if you like what you hear, you can catch them live beginning on April 29. They will be doing a short tour through May 7, and will be playing Fort Rock and Welcome To Rockville near the beginning of said tour. After that, they will also be playing Rock On The Range. For further information, please check out Pennywise's official website, and be on the look out for a review of their latest album, Yesterdays, here on Immortal Music. Throwing back to July 2011, 3 Doors Down released their fifth studio album, Time Of My Life. The album did extremely well, selling nearly 60,000 copies in its first week alone, and debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200 charts. It also reached number one on the Billboard Rock Albums, Hard Rock albums, and number two on the Billboard Digital albums, and in Germany. It received world wide success, charting in the top 70 in 9 countries total, including the US. The lead single for the album, "When You're Young" came out on January 10, 2011, and sets up the vibe for the entire album very well. The song speaks of feeling trapped and having people try to make you something you're not. We can't help but feel like its a reflection of life as you get older, which is something anyone who's a little bit older can relate to. You reflect a lot, and see how much things change. Something that seems like the end of the world really isn't, but you don't see that when you're young. One interesting thing that we just felt like mentioning to see if anyone else noticed it, first few cords in the song sound almost identical to those in the beggining of their classic, "When You're Gone." To some, that may be a bad thing, but we thought it was kind of cool to hear. Most of the album holds that classic 3 Doors Down sound that everyone has known and loved since the 2000's, and is just about life in general. It covers all types of topics like loving the life you live, the different types of people in your life, freeing yourself from things that are holding you back, and so much more. Its most definitely a beautiful, very throught provoking album that perhaps everyone should hear at some point in their life. It may be comforting, or even eye opening to some. We recommend looking it up soon, and get prepared because on March 11, 3 Doors Down will be releasing their sixth studio album, Us and The Night. To go along with the album, they will be playing a free show at Universial Studios in Orlando, FL on March 20. After that, they will set out on tour which will run April 8 through May 13. They will also be appearing at Welcome To Rockville, Fort Rock, Carolina Rebellion, Rocklahoma and Bands In The Backyard. For further information, head over to the 3 Doors Down official website and the respective festival websites. Swedish death metal band, Avatar, released their fifth, and currently most recent album, Hail The Apocalypse on May 13, 2014! It reached number 97 on the Billboard 200, making it their first release to reach the charts. It actually went all the way up to number six on the Top Hard Rock Albums Chart here in the US, and peaked the top 30 on two others here in the US as well. Despite the success, we couldn't find a lot of information regarding the album such as inspirations, backstories, ect. All we could find is that it was recorded in Thialand, and was released through Entertainment One Records. So, we went into this review more or less completely blind, and what we found wa slightly interesting. Their genre appears to be up for some debate. We've seen groove metal, death metal, groove metal, and melodic death metal. We personally decided to go with melodic death metal because when we hear the words "Death metal", we picture extremely heavy music and gutural growls that only certain people will understand, along with dark lyrics. Over all, they fit that bill, but its a bit more muted, and not quite that heavy. We picked up on some vibes similar to Five Finger Death Punch on one track, and then Cradle of Filth or Children of Bodom on other tracks. Any fans of dark music will probably love this, its just not quite our taste. Its a bit too heavy, and the screaming is a bit much for us, but we definitely see how fans would love it. One track we did really like was, "Death of Sound." The lyrics paint a beautiful picture right from the start, and seems to be a bit of a cry for help. It sucks you in from the very first line, "Welcome to the wasteland, the universe between. Dive into the darkness, and see the end and oblivion." Most of the tracks are like that, telling a story all of their own. That is something we can admire, even if we're not a massive fan of what we hear. Other tracks that stood out to us, for their story more than anything, included, "Bloody Angel", and "Murderer." What do you think of the album? Or for that matter, the genre on its own? Let us know over on Facebook and Twitter. For anyone interested, you can get this album, Hail The Apocalypse wherever music is sold. You can also catch Avatar live at Fort Rock, Welcome To Rockville, or Carolina Rebellion here in the US this April / May and in Norway at Norway Rock on July 8. For more information, please visit the festival websites, and be sure to check out Avatar's website for all sorts of updates. It appears as though they are in the studio right now, and are updating fans frequently. Almost exactly two years ago, Issues released their self titled, debut album, Issues. It came out on February 18, and was released on November 28, all in 2014. The album debuted at number 9 on the Billboard 200 the first time around, and sold 22,000 copies in its first week alone.
Fans have continued to love the album, and their hard to describe, very unique sound. While they're thought of as 'nu-metal' or 'metalcore' to some, they blur the genre lines by throwing in heavier aspects, with some electronic vibes. They're a bit hard to describe, and definitely not for everyone. Perhaps they're an aquired taste, but they don't really strike our attention that much. It often felt like singer, Tyler Carter was being drowned out by the synthesizers, and then between that and the screaming, the meanings of the songs felt like they were often lost. It doesn't neccessarily sound bad though, its all very catchty and upbeat in sound, which draws the attention of many. We did like some tracks quite a bit though, like "Mad At Myself", and "The Langdon House." "Mad At Myself" is about a bad romance, where they fell for someone who's just awful for them. He said something very interesting in this song that we really liked. , "I've got your melody in my head. Feels like I'm singing it wrong, then again there's nothing worse than being addicted to a bad song." Comparing someone to a bad song is something we haven't heard much of and really liked hearing here. As for "The Langdon House", it seems to speak about an inner turmoil caused by someone else. Problem is, it may be all in your head, but you don't quite know either. This one was very well done, and it was one of the best tracks on the album. Its not a bad album, by any means. Its just a style that may not be our cup of tea. We see the talent, just don't love it ourselves. We recommend checking them out for yourself and seeing what you think. Some absolutely love it, some do not, and others have to let it grow on them. Perhaps we just have to let it grow on us. For anyone interested, you can catch Issues on tour with Crown The Empire, ONE OK ROCK, and Night Verses March 17 through April 18. You can also see them at a handful of festivals coming up very soon, such as Fort Rock, Welcome To Rockville, and Rock On The Range here in the US, then Rock am Ring and Rock im Park in Germany later on. Further information can be found over on Issues official website. Meliora is not only Latin for 'something better', but it is also the name of Swedish heavy metal band, Ghost. The album was released on August 21, 2015, and is thought to mark the replacement of the singer. Papa Emeritus II retired and was replaced by Papa Emeritus III, though it is thought that Papa Emeritus, of any form, has all been the same person. This album was very well loved worldwide. It hit number one on Finish and Swedish charts, as well as number 2 in Norway, and on two different US charts. It reached the top 50 in fourteen different countries, and has already recieved a gold certification in Sweden. Its not hard to see why they're so widely loved, they're something different! They're very dark, and creative with not only their music, but their image. Its attention grabbing, and something you definitely don't see every day. The first single came out on "Cirice" on May 30, 2015, and had a very interesting music video attached to it that raised quite a few questions. The song though is rather dark, and that's just the way everyone likes it. It sounds great, and gives you the vibe that he's speaking to a deceased person. "I can feel your presence amongst us, you cannot hide in the darkness." You can't hide from the darkness, so you might as well embrace it. We must admit, while we see their appeal for others, this album is not quite our cup of tea. We respect their massive difference to the other music that's out there, and their creativity for their own backstory is insane, but musicially, they're just not really jumping out at us. Perhaps older music from them will be different to us? We're not sure, but definitely see the potential, and would like to hear not only more music from Ghost, but opinions and song suggestions from fans. Please feel encouraged to leave those in the comments here, or tell us over on Facebook or Twitter! Learn more about this very interesting band by clicking here, and watch the Grammy's on February 15 because they, along with Slipknot and others are nominated for the Best Metal Performance! Watch to see who wins! Also remember that they will be performing at several festivals coming up here in the US, and then all over Europe. The US festivals include, the 98 Rockfest, Fort Rock, Welcome To Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, and Rock N' Derby. Further information on all their performances in Europe can be found on Ghost's official website. For more information on any festival mentioned, please visit their official website. On October 2, 2015, Sevendust released their tenth studio album, Kill The Flaw! It di incredibly well here in the US, reaching number two on both the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums, and the Top Rock Albums. It also reached number thirteen on the over all Billboard 200. Other world wide success isn't quite known to us, though it did reach number 44 in Australia. Clearly, fans are greatly loving it. They released the lead single, and opening track, "Thank You" several months prior to the album's release, on July 26. We can definitely see why they chose this to be a single for the album, because its about starting over after someone was holding you back and slowing you down. We can't quite tell if the "Thank you for coming around", is sarcasm or not, but either way it sounds good. "Thank You" does definitely stand out, but we also feel compelled to give honorable mentions to the album's fourth track, "Letters." Not only is it beautifully done, but it has a great message. Nobody is alone, and we all make mistakes. That doesn't need to hold us back though, because we can grow and learn from it all. This song appears to state that and we really enjoy it. The entire album is very good, and covers many different topics. We're not going to give it away though. If you're curious about the album, you can pick it up wherever music is sold. Also keep in mind that you can catch Sevendust live very soon! If you're in Australia, you can see them live March 11 through the 19th at various different spots. If you're in the US, you have a little bit longer to wait, but many more chances to see them. They will not only be touring with Trivium and Like A Storm April 26 through May 27, but they will also be performing at most of the festivals happening this April /May. Sevendust will be appearing at Fort Rock, Welcome To Rockville, Lunatic Luau '16, Carolina Rebellion, Rock On The Range, Rock'n Derby, and the River City Rockfest. For further information, such as exact tour dates, please head on over to Sevendust's official website. For information on the festivals, such as full lineups, exact dates, and ticket prices, please visit the festival websites. Back in 2013, Trivium released their sixth studio album, Vengeance Falls. Despite being an American band, this album actually was released in Japan first, on October 9, 2013, then the UK on the 14th, and then finally the US on the 15th through Roundrunner Records. The album did very well world wide, peaking at number two on both the US Rock & Metal Albums, and US Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums charts. We've had this album for a while, and have heard bits and parts of it in the past but sitting down to review it was the first time we ever properly listened to both the instrumentals and the lyrics fully. We were most definitely not dissapointed, it was quite the contrary actually. You hear their singer, Matt Heafy pour his very heart out about life struggles, including anxiety, and just other internal battles. Hearing something like that is always incredible, but there's something about the way he personally does it that really makes it obvious why this album has been loved so widely all over the world. "Strife" especially is one of those tracks that you just have to respect and know people all over the world can relate to it. Its about anxiety, and trying to find a calming balance in life. With anxiety being such a common struggle, this is one of those songs that you just know is going to make thousands stop and say, "That's it! He just put it into works!" That's the magic of music -its what feelings sound like. This is a perfect example of that magic. The entire album is awesome, and if you haven't heard it before, we highly recommend you do. Since the release of this album, Trivium has released one other album, called Silence In The Snow. Be on the look out for a review of that in the near future here on Immortal Music. You can catch Trivium on tour now with Invasive and Vial 8 or Excessum and Wild Fire at different dates through February 20 all over North America. They also will be performing in the UK this March, Japan and Australia this April, before heading back over to the US to perform at many festivals. The festivals include the annual Earth Day Birthday, Welcome To Rockville, Fort Rock, Carolina Rebellion, Northern Invasion, Rock On The Range and Rock N' Derby! For further information, such as even more tour dates we did not mention, head on over to Trivium's official website. If you want more information on the festivals, please head over to their websites. |
