Escape The Fate's self-titled, thrid album is their best one yet. I'm not just
saying that either, as I realize I have said that in every album so far. I say that because every song isgreat, and for the most part has very deep lyrics, backed with strong beats. Some songs are more emotional than others, but you can't help but like the entire ablum. Usually, I do not like introductions to CD's, but the ominious beat to hte simple song, "Choose Your Fate", is a great intro to the album, I will admit. Many of the songs on the album have deep, personal meanings to the members. Take, "Massacre", the first track on the album. Written by the bassist, Maxwell Green, its a cry for help. Its saying he knows better than to be involved with drugs, but he just can't give them up on his own. Not long after the album was released in November 2011, Max entered rehav to get the help he knew he needed. Every song is great, but some stood out more than others. Some were simply because I knew the deep meanings behind them. The eighth track, "Lost In Darkness" is one of them. The song tells you the morbid and true tale of a girl getting dragged out of her home, raped and possibly killed. This unfortunately, happened to a friend of Craig Mabbitt's. It is a sad song really, but he sounds so into the lyrics he's singing, I adore the song. Morbid or not, he brings the song to life. Then there's "World Around Me", the tenth track on the album. Its one of the only slow songs the band has, and was written about the relationship between Craig, his daughter Lelia, and his girlfriend, Gabbi. The song is asking why the world we live in is so messed up, and full of lies. "I don't want to be demanding, I just want to know the reasons why we live and die in a world of lies?" Relationships are tough, and this song beautifully expresses that. What I love about this song, or even this album in particular, is you can hear the passion in his voice. This song espeically, because you can tell his daughter and girlfriend mean the world to him, and I find that very sweet. The eleventh track on the album, "The Aftermath (The Guillotine Part III) is the conclusion to a three part "series" of songs, that is strung out among all three albums. The second and third parts are both sung by Craig Mabbitt. The third part, while it was rumored to be about Halo, just like "The Guillotine Part II", its actually about Craig's father who was in the miltary when Craig was a child. This album is well worth your money, including the Hot Topic exclusive, deluxe edition, featuring two bonus tracks. Great job indeed, Escape The Fate. When I first heard , "Massacre", which was leaked on the internet long before the first single, "Issues" was released, I thought I was going to hate the album. I hated "Massacre" the first time I heard it, I thought it was too hardcore, and I didn't like the screaming. When I heard "Issues" however, my mind changed. By the time the album was out, I was hooked. First impressions are not always correct.
