Yet another iconic album that I have loved for quite some time, yet somehow didn't get a chance to review. My Chemical Romance's second album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge! This is quite possibly my favorite My Chem album, and it was released on June 8, 2004, so it just surpassed its twelfth anniversary. Upon its release, it did fairly well among charts, as it broke the top 40 on charts in the US, UK, New Zealand, Ireland, and Australia. It also reached charts in several other countries like Austria, Japan, and Scottland, but the real success is expressed with the fans loyalty. The success for MCR really grew with this album, and has Platinum certifications in the US, UK, and Canada. It also has gone gold in Argentina, Australia, Chile, Ireland, Mexico, and New Zealand. Its pretty obvious that this album is extremely loved, and its still being rocked out to all these years later. The lead single, "I'm Not Okay (I Promise", is one of those songs that everyone knows, even if they don't realize that they do. There's a slight insanity factor to it, while being extremely catchy, which I think is where a lot of the appeal comes from. For me however, my favorites were not singles. Except for "Thank You For The Venom", which apparently was a single, but only in the UK. I've always loved the way this sounded and when I say always, I mean ALWAYS. This was actually one of the first non-pop songs I genuinely really liked many, many years ago. To me, the song is about the world trying to stop you, and you're telling them to fire at will, but they're never going to get you down. Instead, their negativity will only fuel you, and that's something I love. I discovered this album a good probably three years after it was released, and I've had different favorites at different times. "Thank You For The Venom" has always been a favorite, like I just said, but I think at some point every song on this album has been a favorite. I can remember a time where "The Ghost Of You" was my absolute favorite song and I would play it almost constantly. I can also remember a time where it was "I Never Told You What I did For A Living", or just, "I"m Not Okay." Remembering how my favorites from this album have changed quite a bit over the years made me wonder -what are my favorites now? So, I turned the album on for old times sake, and honestly, I think I would have to say there's three favorites. Those are, "Its Not A Fashion Statement, Its a Fucking Deathwish", "Cemetery Drive", and "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison." I really can't tell you why that's the case, but I can say MCR has always been something special and I will always enjoy them. Especially this album. You can get it wherever music is sold, and please do me a favor and let me know what your favorite songs from this album are!
