On March 31, We Are Harlot will have their debut, self titled album available for purchase. Before its released though, they decided to stream it on the internet, which is how Immortal Music found this album.
After hearing the singles previously released from this album, "Denial" and "Dancing On Nails", the curiosity was high.
The curiosity was met with some incredible work, that actually got a lot deeper than expected. While you do still have your sexual songs and a song about partying, you also have some very sweet ones that were slightly unexpected.
The entire album is very impressive, and highly worth the anticipation. They have been working on some of the lyrics since 2011 and it shows a lot. We Are Harlot lived up to expectations and blew them completely out of the water. Many were skeptical when front man, Danny Worsnop departed from his former band, Asking Alexandria for this, but anyone who listens to this will know he made the right choice.
As previously said, the whole album is impressive, but some tracks stood out better than others. "Never Turn Back", "Someday" and, "The One."
"Never Turn Back" is both sweet and sort of sexual, because he seems to be speaking of a girl and how she makes him feel. "She's not an angel but she takes me to heaven, she's not the devil but she makes me feel so...I don't know." Everyone has at some point not really known how to word how they were feeling. That's usually where we turn to music, but sometimes its nice just to hear flat out what we feel in the lyrics we listen to. Also, you have to love that he at one point goes, "Don't stop...don't stop..so close." What was surprising though was that he did not moan after that. He did scream, but no sexual sounds were thrown in. Still was a great touch and we appreciated it.
"Someday" was a surprising twist. Never before had such a sweet song been performed by Danny Worsnop. Its more melodic than we were used to, and the intro seemed very reminiscent of "Tonight" by Seether, and it appears to be about missing someone while you're on tour and promising to return soon. Its just rather sweet, and that's what made it stand out.
With a title like, "The One", you would expect it to be all sweet and romantic? Well, if you think that for this particular song, you would be wrong. Its actually a song about going out and finding someone to 'have a good time' with for the night. "I can't see clearly because you're beauty is killing me. Follow me home, you might be the one. I'm losing my self control, falling in lust you know. Others can try -I think you might be the one tonight." Some of those lyrics may be quoted wrong, but that is (hopefully) very close to what the song says. Its quite catchy, both in lyrics and rhythm and is just done all around great.
As previously mentioned, we were highly impressed with this album, and cannot wait to catch We Are Harlot live in concert one of these days. They have very high potential and will definitely be going far. You can get their debut, self titled album officially on March 31, 2015, but you can listen to it now on Roadrunner Record's Soundcloud.
All reviews have the date they were written, the album title, and the band's name, with the exception of Life Starts Now by Three Days Grace and Dear Agony by Breaking Benjamin. Those dates were guessed at, as they were written well before the website began.
