All music is real music. Everyone has heard someone say something along the lines of, "Go listen to some real music." Sometimes they mean classic rock, sometimes they mean another genre all together. No matter what they mean, they are saying it dead wrong.
All music is real music because it exists. It exists, therefor, its real! A lot of the time, when people are trying to back up why some artist's work isn't "real music", they quote their lyrics. Here's the thing though, while yes, lyrics can sometimes be the window to an artist's soul, they aren't always. Sometimes they are just words. Or once meant something, but now do not. You don't know the artist, even if you do know their work. You do have to do some research to learn anything about them, and even then, you don't know them. You just know what they tell the media. That's kind of part of why I enjoy doing interviews, you can get some more insight to who they are as a person. And you can share it with the world. Someone can be a genuine person, with less than amazing lyrics, and vice versa. Do your research before you judge, and remember that all music is real music. Also keep in mind that people like music for different reasons. Some songs exist to relate to others, some are just for fun, and there's other songs that are somewhere in between. Everyone takes music differently, and that's okay! As long as they are enjoying what they listen to, and it does something for them, that's what matters. Don't judge others for what they listen to, and do not tell them to listen to "real music." It doesn't make you sound superior for listening to different music than them, it makes you look like an asshole with no brain. The music exists, there for its real.
