Bring Me The Horizon have released another song off of "That's The Spirit" and frankly, I'm kind of excited about it! I've had "True Friends" stuck in my head since I pre-ordered the album the other day through iTunes, and have really been enjoying the other songs that are out so far. So, when I saw another song was released, my curiosity rose a lot.
Before you read on GO LISTEN TO THE SONG! This post will contain a lot of spoilers and I do not want to give anything way. We posted about it here, with the link if you haven't heard it yet. Just go listen to it first, and feel encouraged to share your thoughts on the song as well. We really want some more feedback and this is probably the perfect way to get it. Anyways, the sound BMTH introduced with the Sempiternal album really drew me in and they seem to have just improved upon that sound so far with the songs off That's The Spirit. This song is about things getting to be just too much and then falling apart, and as most of BMTH's lyrics, its beautifully said. "Its like an avalanche, I feel myself go under. 'Cause the weight of is like hands around my neck. I never stood a chance, my heart is frozen over. And I feel like I am treading on thin ice." "I need a cure for me, 'cause the thread (Spread?) doesn't fit the circle. Give me a remedy, 'cause my head wasn't right for this world." Struggles happens, and sometimes you do feel like its all too much and you have no idea how you're getting through it. This song talks about that situation perfectly. I must say though, while I do like the song, I still much prefer the other releases from That's The Spirit so far. Especially "True Friends", and "Throne." Something about those two tracks really sits well with me and I can't totally explain it. I actually talked about both of those songs when they were released if you are interested. So let me know what you think about all the song BMTH has released so far! I really am excited for That's The Spirit to come out and do plan on reviewing it as soon as the pre-order lands in my iTunes Friday morning.

After asking a few times, I was finally permitted to do an interview with Escape The Fate, and this was all around a very interesting experience. A lot could be said about it too, so I figured I may as well talk about it.
First let me say this- NOTHING is ever guaranteed at festivals. You have one time set and almost every time, without fail, it ends up being a different time. In fact, I don't think I have ever done an interview at the time we originally scheduled, now that I think of it. This, was no different. We got there around probably 12:45ish and the interview was like 1:15, I think. Somewhere around there for sure, and I honestly was so fucking worried that this was going to end up falling apart because the night before I got an email from ETF's press person asking if I would like to do an interview. I had already been confirmed for one a while before that, so them forgetting worried me a lot, but it all ended up balancing out and we just went back to the original times we had set. Not long after we left for the venue, I got a text from Escape The Fate's tour manager, confirming the interview and he made all my worries go away. I told him I would tell him when we were there, and he said he would meet us somewhere so we could get in to do the interview. When I let him know we were there, he texted me and said he was sorry but it was going to have to wait a bit because half the band up and went to the gym without any warning. I honestly really wanted to ask which half, but I refrained and said that was fine, just keep in touch with me about it. I found it really funny, if I'm honest. We actually ended up finding him and the band by going to their signing, and we just ended up hanging out waiting for them to finish and walked back to their tour bus with them. I interviewed Robert and Kevin, and you can watch that below if you want! As their tour manager was setting up though, I realized I was wearing this awful straw hat (it was like $5 and it was good to keep the sun out of my face, but it honestly was ugly) and said to my friend, "I just realized I'm wearing this ugly hat!" And struggled to get it off my head for a moment before handing it to him. Apparently Robert heard me because all the sudden he makes a face and goes, "Ugly hat?" I said, "Yeah, its nothing. Just a crappy hat my mom picked up at Walmart." I forget exactly how he worded it, but he said something that's stuck with me. He said something along the lines of, "Nothing's ugly, it how you wear it." Or something that I think was actually deeper than that. Something that really spoke about inner beauty or something. I wish I could remember exactly what he said, but alas, I cannot. The interview went great, and I actually forced the other press person to take a water bottle from me because he sincerely looks like he was going to either throw up or pass out during my interview and he admitted he didn't have anything. We parted ways and I went straight to Sons Of Reverly's RV to do an interview...that was an interesting interview that I don't think I'm going to get into. Anyways, right as we finished our interview, Escape The Fate was getting around to go on stage. I had yet to meet Craig Mabbit and really wanted to, so my best friend (who Craig actually remembered from a month previous at a Dead Rabbits show) yelled to Craig and asked if I could get a picture real quick. He happily said yes, and we actually walked to the stage with Craig, and the rest of Escape The Fate not far behind. I felt cool, not gonna lie. So, that was a fun experience! I actually did vlog that day, and a little bit near Escape The Fate, though I didn't try to get them involved. If you want to watch that, you can do so here! Thanks for reading and I will be back for another story tomorrow! We have one more week ahead of us until the 4th anniversary of Immortal Music so keep checking back for more stories! #9/ Yesterday's Until I saw Godsmack live, I actually thought I only knew two songs by Godsmack. As it turns out, no. I actually knew most of their set list, but apparently previously didn't realize it was Godsmack. One of those songs that I knew but didn't realize was Godsmack was their classic, "I Stand Alone."
Please don't hate me for not realizing, I know it now and that's what matters -right? Anyways, this particular song live stood out to me, particularly this time because I was in the dead center of the crowd, so I could see most of what was around me very well. There was something slightly humorous about 10,000 people all standing together screaming the words, "I stand alone." Because obviously, they weren't alone. There's probably some sort of metaphor thrown in there about how nobody is truly alone but you can feel like it, but in my state of being exhausted and sunburned, I found it funny. I actually saw Godsmack a time and a half after that night, once was at Uproar 2014, and then at Fort Rock this year. I will be talking about that experience, but Uproar 2014, we only stayed for maybe four songs and had to leave because my best friend (who was with me) had work the next morning and it was a long drive back. They put on a pretty good show, and fun fact, they're very well loved in my hometown because Shannon and I think it was Sully both live here and the band does record here. I personally, am not a massive fan of Godsmack but I do see their talent and am looking forward to possibly seeing them once more at the Rock Allegiance festival. I still have no idea if I get to go, but fingers crossed! I will see you guys tomorrow with yet another story. #8 / Yesterday's. So this story actually ties two different Uproar events together. At Uproar 2012, I met and interviewed Chris Dow and David Koonce of Within Reason. We had a great time, and it was one of the few in person interviews I've done without a camera. We were just under their merch tent and a band was playing not too far away, so I knew the whole interview would be drowned out, so I just didn't bother recording anything. I was primarily interviewing Chris Dow, but somewhere near the middle of the interview David sat down and Chris ended up asking his input on a question.
I sadly had not noticed him sitting over there sooner, because I was scribbling all of Chris' answers down in a notebook, but as soon as I realized he was there, I decided to get him involved. Fast forward two years, Within Reason was back at the same venue for Uproar 2014. I had actually been emailing back and forth with David directly to set up an interview, but we hadn't set up a time or anything. I had learned previously that merch people know things, so I went up to their merch tent and explained what I wanted and asked if he could possibly get David for me. He said absolutely and got him for me. When David came over, I introduced myself and said, "You probably don't remember me." He looked at me really hard for a moment, you could tell he was trying to remember. I thought for sure he was going to smile sheepishly and then apologize because he didn't remember me. Instead, he responds with, "We met here, right? At Uproar...this venue...two years ago?" I think I almost hugged him because so far he is the only person I've ever met twice that actually remembers me! It made me extremely happy because I sincerely did not expect him to remember me, and it was amazing. We actually ended up not doing the interview in person this time around, because it rained and everything kind of got destroyed. We stayed in contact on and off all day though, and right as I left, David called apologizing up and down, and promised me that he would answer the questions over email the very next day. He kept his promise and I was very happy the whole situation. I will be back with more stories from both Uproar's very soon! Stay tuned! #7/ Yesterday's Everyone has that their bands that they are simply dying to see, but yet somehow always miss them right? For me, that one was Papa Roach. At least, until this year, anyways. I had actually been at the venue even, but had to leave, so until January 10th of this year, I had not seen Papa Roach. They are the creators of my favorite song, so for good reason, it was a goal of mine to finally see them live.
So, needless to say, when they announced a tour with one of my mom's favorite bands (Seether), I jumped on the chance. I went and purchased tickets, and then decided to ask for press credentials. I don't actually want to talk about the entire show, as I have done it before. You can read all about it here if you're interested, BUT I really wanted to talk about finally hearing "Scars" live. It had been a very hectic (and not in the good way, for the most part) day, so the moment when the song started was the moment I had been waiting for all night. I had fought my way pretty close to the front, and actually was looking down at the ground for an opening in the crowd when I heard the first note of "Scars" start. Nothing else mattered in that moment. I stopped trying to fight the crowd, my headache no longer was irritating me, the song was the only thing that mattered. I purposely put my arm, which has lyrics from "Scars" written on it, up in the air and was singing with everything I had. I couldn't see the entire band from where I was, but I could see Jacoby, and Tobin on and off. A guy was right in front of me right as the song started, and I just didn't care. My mom, however, explained to him what the song meant to me and asked if I could get in front of him so I could see better. He actually did let me in front of him, but at some point we ended up right next to each other. Through some tears, I looked over and noticed he was also singing with about as much force as I was. I got the feeling that maybe the song meant as much to him as it did to me, and it was quite the moment. I don't know, it was just something worth talking about. I hope you guys have gotten to see your favorite songs live, and if you haven't, I hope you get to soon. Uproar 2012 was the first festival I had ever covered and was full of exciting things. I'm not going to tell them all in one day, so stay tuned. This one actually involved Deuce of 9Lives/ formerly of Hollywood Undead. An interview had been scheduled, but for some reason, I had been given the wrong press contact for him and was kind of left hanging briefly. The reason for this was because right when I was told our interview was supposed to happen, he was doing a meet and greet where half of the festival chose to get in line. I'm not one to just give up and go, "Oh well!" So I decided I was just going to take matters into my own hands. I didn't want to cut the line and piss off a couple thousand fans, so I bypass Deuce and went straight up to his back up rapper, B-Lay (Bryan). He had no line, and was just relaxing, waiting for someone to come up anyways, so it was perfect. Now, honestly, with his build, chances are, someone would have been scared of him. I'm not scared by people easily, so he didn't phase me one bit. I walked up and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around, saw me and leaned down so he could hear me. We exchanged our hellos and then I said, "I actually had a question." He nodded and answers with, "Okay, what's up?" I think he assumed I wanted a picture or something, since my camera was out. I just looked right at him and asked, "Where's your manager?" He all the sudden straightened right up, and Deuce apparently heard it too because they both exchanged a look that asked, "What did we do? Are we in trouble?" I saw the look and just looked at Deuce and said, "I have an interview with you, that's all." They both seemed very relieved and pointed me into the right direction. The manager and I exchanged numbers and getting to the interview was so easy and honestly to this day, that's still one of my favorite interviews. I actually went into that interview slightly nervous because I had heard so much bad about him. We actually got along so well, and the interview turned into more of a conversation where he was asking me questions even. It was a lot of fun, and its so hard to believe that it was almost exactly three years ago. If you want to watch that interview, I put it just below. I honestly would love to interview Deuce again, and he did say he would love to do a second interview. Problem is, he hasn't been back to Florida since then (not that I've seen anyways), so it hasn't happened yet. Like I said, Uproar 2012 was extremely eventful, not only did I have 3 interviews that day, but I also went on my first real tour bus that day, and got a little personal with a couple people. I will be telling those stories later this week, so stay tuned.
Some of these songs may have been suggested in other 'Song Suggestion' blogs, but with the Rock Allegiance festival just over a month away, we thought it would be cool to suggest songs for some of the bands. A lot of them are going on their other tours, or at least doing other performances at other things before hand. We'll get into that, but first, let's get into the suggestions!
I didn't pick a ton of them, just about 10, so there wasn't too much for you guys to read. As it is one song can lead you to a thousand others, so you guys can find more. 1. Let Me Live My Life -Saint Asonia 2. Skeletons -Papa Roach 3. I Stand Alone -Godsmack 4. Question Everything -Five Finger Death Punch 5. Sex Metal Barbie -In This Moment 6. Antivist -Bring Me The Horizon 7. Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Supertown -Rob Zombie 8. Rise Up -Art Of Dying 9. Levitate -Hollywood Undead 10. Cry -Marmozets These are just some of the songs I could suggest from artists performing at the Rock Allegiance festival, and there is plenty more where that came from. If you're curious, the lineup can be found here, and we have done reviews for every artist performing. This momentarily excludes Atreyu and Bring Me The Horizon, but those are coming soon! Their latest albums are now out yet, but as soon as we get ahold of them, reviews will be coming! If you're interested in looking up those reviews, or anything else really, we've made it pretty easy by making a directory of all the content for the festival. You can find that here, if you're interested. I am starting to feel really weird about sharing some of these memories, because I am posting them in random order, and on some level I feel like I'm bragging. I know I'm not, not in the slightest, but just talking about them kind of feels that way. None the less, some people have expressed interest in hearing more stories, so I am going to keep going forward with this project.
Today, I think I'm going to talk about one of the only 'meet and greets' I've ever attended. In November 11, Mayday Parade came to Fort Lauderdale, FL. About a month before that, I found their press contact and decided to take my first shot at properly asking for an interview. Previously, I had only interviewed two other people, and I asked through Facebook and YouTube, so I had never tried to go through a press person before. I decided to ask though, and they said yes! Only thing was, I thought the lady had ment for it to be in person, and it turned out that she actually meant that it would be over email. A couple weeks before the show, she emailed me asking if I could send over my questions. I didn't think too much of it, and did send the questions, but I did ask why, since we would be talking about them soon enough in person anyways. She answered back saying she was very sorry, but the interview couldn't be done in person. I understood, but because of the mix up, she gave me two meet and greet passes and my first photo pass ever. Now at the time, I had absolutely no idea what a 'photo pass' was, and in fact, had given very little thought to photography. I didn't want to admit I had no idea what that was, so I just waited until the day of the show to find out. A friend of mine went to the show, and almost missed the meet and greet. We had been told to wait by one door, when we apparently should have been at the other. Someone, who that night became a friend, told us to go to the other one because the venue is often a bit backwards. So, we went in there and ironically, the only member of Mayday Parade we did not meet was Jeremy, the one we interviewed. They all were super nice, and frankly, all meet and greets should be like that. They were just in the pit of the venue, and fans could walk up and talk with whoever they wanted. I've only done one other meet and greet, and a couple signings, but none have been that laid back. Everyone always gets in line, and only gets a picture and two seconds with the band. This one, everyone got plenty of time with any member they wanted, and because it was in the pit of the venue, everyone got to pick a spot on or near the barricade with ease. So that was pretty cool! I can't remember what I talked about with any of them, but we spent the most time just chatting with Jake, though we did get pictures with all we could. Then there came the actual show. My press pass only said Mayday Parade, and given that I actually had very little idea what a photo pass was at this point, I didn't realize that would get me in front of the barricade for all of the performances. I thought it only counted for Mayday Parade, until I saw a girl come out from the pit wearing one during There For Tomorrow. I ran over to her, and asked her if she had just come from in front of the barricade. She said yes and then noticed I had a pass too and asked why I wasn't up there. I probably looked like an idiot because I said I didn't know I could, but hey, it was the first time I ever covered a show, so it was just a learning experience. I think I only got pictures of We Are The In Crowd and Mayday Parade that night, though I tried for You Me At Six, but was sadly too late. You can only be in front of the barricade for the first three songs, and I think I got up there on the second one, so they didn't let me do it. That night started something great though. I never realized how different it was in front of the barricade, and over the years, I've gotten much better at the photography stuff and have come a long way. That show was covered with this little, hot pink camera my family had bought years before that at Walmart, and now have a decent Nikon camera and have just learned some tricks here and there. A lot has changed since then, but had that night not happened, maybe nothing ever would have. I'll be back tomorrow with another story. See ya! #4 / Yesterdays Good morning, afternoon, or night, person on the other side of that screen! I have absolutely no idea where you are, or the state your in but I hope wherever you are, you are well! Let's see, what are we gonna be talking about today, hmm? I think today I am going to jump way ahead of where I currently was, and discuss something that happened in April 2014.
Now this was something that did not happen at a show but rather because of a show. I know I have talked about it before, but it was sincerely very massive for my career, and I don't know if I've fully discussed the emotions of it. On August 9, 2014 I got to meet and interview Zach Myers from Shinedown and Justin Moore of Ingram Hill at one of the coolest shows I've ever seen. It was just two friends playing music acoustically with no set list just for a couple of hours, and it was really awesome. Anyways, after the show, I wrote about my experience and two days later I was chatting with a friend when all the sudden, she goes, "OMG SHINEDOWN SHARED YOU!" I won't lie, I actually yelled, "WHAT?" at my screen and couldn't search 'Shinedown' on Facebook any quicker if I tried. Sure enough, they did share the article I had written, and yes, I got extremely excited. Who wouldn't? It was the first time I had ever been acknowledged by a band that didn't actually know me personally, and it was one of my favorite bands. By the time I saw it, it already was pushing five hundred likes, and it ultimately reached somewhere around 1,500. Not only was it momentarily exciting, but them just sharing that actually changed the game for Immortal Music entirely. After they shared that, the view has gotten hundreds more views daily than it had before. It was a minor thing on their part, but that minor thing ended up being major for me. Little things really can make a huge difference, but I guess I always knew that. It was a little thing just deciding to start writing about music in the first place, and now things have grown to such bigger heights. Stay tuned for another memory tomorrow! I don't quite know which one I am going to talk about just yet, but we're gonna find out! I'm actually having a hard time doing 16 of these because I keep trying to tell all the stories from the same day in one blog. I need to stop that, so it lasts til the 16th. Yesterday's // #3 Greetings! Since you are here, I'm hoping its because you're ready for another story. Yesterday I told a couple stories from the Art Of Dying and Adelita's Way show in 2011, which you can check out if you want. I actually am trying to figure out what order to do these in, if any.
Part of me says I want to go in order that it happened, but part of me just wants to do it in random order because why not? Unless someone wants me to go in order, I am just going to write them however they happen to come to mind. Today, I feel like talking about something that happened actually right about the same time I technically started doing any of this. I had barely started writing, had no idea what a press pass was and Immortal Music existed only on Blogspot. The memories in this post happened at the show that introduced to me the fist band I ever interviewed. The show was headlined by Escape The Fate, and supported by Alesana, Get Scared and Drive A and happened on January 30, 2011. I wasn't attending as a journalist, I just there as a fan with a few friends and my mom. We had won tickets last second, and friends decided to come with, and we had a great time. There's two memories in particular that I kind of want to talk about, and both were actually after the show and were really just conversations that have remained memorable. The first was right by the door, as people were exiting the venue. A crowd of people just stopped like twenty feet from the door and all appeared to be around one person. So obviously, someone was over there, but I couldn't see who it was. Luckily a friend of mine who was with me is much taller than I am, and was able to see it was Nicholas Matthews of Get Scared. So we decided to go over and get our Get Scared EPs signed. As I was waiting for a few people to get their autographs and pictures with him, people were leaving right behind me. All the sudden Nick hands off a CD to someone and then comes over to me and is like, "I'm sorry, but you come over here. You being near all of those people is making me nervous, I don't want you to get trampled." I'm a pretty small person, and I think that's what worried him, and I just thought it was pretty sweet of him actually. Something else that was kind of cool was the fact that he made a funny face in every single picture he took. Mine included, see? We thanked him and left the build. A lot of people were leaving, so we decided to hang out a bit to let the traffic clear up some. A bunch of people were on the side of the building, so we went over that way to see what was going on. The tour buses were parked over there, so we also knew that meant there was a pretty good chance of meeting someone. I was walking through a crowd of people, texting (You really shouldn't text and walk, you always end up walking into someone. Sure enough, that's exactly what happened. I saw someone step down from the stair just past me, but we basically walked into each other before I could really react. That person was Max Green, who at the time was Escape The Fate's bassist. We both apologized for walking into each other, and then myself and my friends asked for pictures before others noticed he was there. The really memorable thing about this was 1) he was so high, we're not actually sure he could see us that well. 2) Just after we got the pictures, and everyone was getting signatures, a friend of mine asked him, "Hey, do you know where Craig is?" Max signed something and handed it off to someone, turned to my friend and goes, "I will answer your question with another question. Do I look like Craig's babysitter?" I kind of wish we would have said yes, just to see what he said, but I think we actually kind of just laughed. Then he said Craig was probably somewhere down the sidewalk and went on signing things. I actually didn't end up meeting Craig until Uproar 2014 (You'll hear that story at some point, I promise), because I think something was wrong that night. I saw him trying to get through the crowd as quickly as he could, and when he got stopped, frankly he looked terrified. So, I left him alone because I didn't want to add to it. Still don't know what was wrong that day, but hey, we all have our off days! Escape The Fate is great live, by the way. I have now seen them live three times, there was that night, Uproar 2014 and Warped tour this year. If you get the chance to see them, I recommend it. There's that, and I kind of don't know how to end this but I will be back with another memory tomorrow! #2 |
