I regret to inform everyone that I will not be interviewing Of Mice & Men on February 4, 2014. After being shuffled between four separate people, I was informed that Of Mice & Men was unavailable for an interview.
The email said exactly this, leaving out the names of the person who I spoke with. "Thanks for reaching out and apologies for the run around. Unfortunately we are going to have to pass on this; the band doesn't do many video interviews and have a pretty packed schedule that day. But best of luck and we appreciate your interest!" This would be a totally acceptable answer, if it weren't for a couple of very important factors. The first being, as soon as I heard that The American Dream tour was confirmed; I emailed someone and started this whole process. I know it’s not 'first come, first serve', but still, I'd be a bit more understanding had I waited last moment to contact anyone. The second factor being, I never said it had to be filmed. I was sent to the lady who told me this because it was going to be published online. I said "It'll be on my website, Immortal Music, and if it is filmed, it will be on my YouTube channel." I did not say it had to be filmed; I just said if it was, that's where it'd be. I'd say that part was all that was latched onto, but frankly, I don't think I ever stood a chance. I was getting slightly suspicious after I was sent to the third person, but kept trying anyways because I had not been given a flat out no. Frankly, I've gotten the feeling that management companies, while they are supposed to help, often don't help. Management and PR companies only seem to care about the big leagues, they don't care anymore. If it’s not going to benefit whoever their client happens to be immensely, or it’s not a big name person, they want nothing to do with it. This may not be true for all; I'm just speaking from experience. If I’m quite honest, it’s unfair. You need experience to get experience, in any field, but yet hardly anyone is ever willing to give you any experience. It’s a vicious, pointless, endless cycle. Needless to say, I am horribly disappointed, and I apologize to anyone else that is disappointed as well. I wish the bands had some say so in what all they get to do. It sounds like they get less say so in their own careers every day, and I personally wonder if that right there is what’s ruining the music business. The artists themselves, the one with the pure love and passion for music, and helping others, are simply told what to do by people who are just in it primarily for money. Its rotten, to say the least.
