Until I saw Godsmack live, I actually thought I only knew two songs by Godsmack. As it turns out, no. I actually knew most of their set list, but apparently previously didn't realize it was Godsmack. One of those songs that I knew but didn't realize was Godsmack was their classic, "I Stand Alone."
Please don't hate me for not realizing, I know it now and that's what matters -right? Anyways, this particular song live stood out to me, particularly this time because I was in the dead center of the crowd, so I could see most of what was around me very well. There was something slightly humorous about 10,000 people all standing together screaming the words, "I stand alone." Because obviously, they weren't alone. There's probably some sort of metaphor thrown in there about how nobody is truly alone but you can feel like it, but in my state of being exhausted and sunburned, I found it funny. I actually saw Godsmack a time and a half after that night, once was at Uproar 2014, and then at Fort Rock this year. I will be talking about that experience, but Uproar 2014, we only stayed for maybe four songs and had to leave because my best friend (who was with me) had work the next morning and it was a long drive back. They put on a pretty good show, and fun fact, they're very well loved in my hometown because Shannon and I think it was Sully both live here and the band does record here. I personally, am not a massive fan of Godsmack but I do see their talent and am looking forward to possibly seeing them once more at the Rock Allegiance festival. I still have no idea if I get to go, but fingers crossed! I will see you guys tomorrow with yet another story. #8 / Yesterday's.
