More of the world is Christian, and "God fearing" than any other religion. Which means most people walk around believing that anything they do in life is either going to help or hurt them get into Heaven, and possibly avoid them getting into Hell. Some people never question the existence of God, but what if everyone questioned it like Ronnie does? We'll never know the truth, so why not question it? Hell, for that matter, why not ignore the fact that there could be some higher power all together and just live your life the way you want to?
Here's how I see things, and I catch myself thinking this nearly every time I listen to "Sink Or Swim". The devil is a lie, the thing that's making you "sin" inside, is human nature. Even the most upstanding citizens do something stupid every once and a while. Its not a sin to give into your human urges. I don't even really believe in "sins" except for murder, and rape. I'm not even sure if those are considered "sin", but they should be, if they're not. So, honestly, in my eyes, the Devil is a lie.
Then there's the whole "God" thing. I have seriously debated all of this many times, so my mind is fully made up about this. Bare with me. If a God really does exist, why is the world so fucked up? If God made the world, he could fix the world! It'd just be like a science project: something goes wrong, so you take it out, fix it, and put it back in. I feel like God's pretty heartless if he lets young children get raped, get painful illnesses, die before they even get to live. Awful diseases like cancer, AIDS, HIV, Alzheimer, and other useless and terrible illnesses wouldn't exist. He wouldn't separate families, let people get abused and neglected.
When I've said that to people before, they've been like, "He leaves them here as a challenge, just to see what us humans can do." I feel like maybe that's true on some levels, but on some things, he really needs to step in and fix it. God supposedly can do anything, so he needs to realize that humans are humans, not magical beings like we all wish we were.
That's another thing too -can someone explain to me how people can believe in God, who can do anything, but not magic? Its literally the same thing to me. I kind of feel like the whole "God" thing is just like Santa Clause, only for adults.
You know how it goes. When you're little, your parents drill it into your heads that if you don't behave Santa won't give you your presents at the end of the year? Then you grow up some and realize they were actually just trying to get you to shut up and behave all year? Its the same thing, only instead of being good for one year, its your entire life, and instead of getting presents, you get into Heaven. I'm not sure if anyone else has ever thought of that, but in case you haven't, well now you have.
In a way, I also feel like its nothing more than a security blanket for adults. Or a way to force themselves into behaving. Just like kids closer to Christmas will actually stop and think, "I have to be good, or else Santa won't bring me that new toy." Its just a way to feel comfortable, and to keep themselves on the right track. Sometimes its taken too far, but sometimes people get just far too caught up in beliefs.
As for life being a bitch; it is one. Want to know why? Because if it were easy, it'd be a slut, and it still wouldn't be easy because then there'd be STD's. Life is never going to be easy, and honestly, its a good thing. Yeah, sometimes its a lot harder than it needs to be, but look, it always turns around. When life knocks you down, you get back up and yell, "You throw like a little bitch!"
Have you ever noticed that when your life is going good, you look back at a bad time and then suddenly feel accomplished with yourself? That's because you realize that the challenges do make you stronger, and had they not happened, you may not be where you are today. Life is hard, but you can either let it beat you down, or ride its ass and enjoy it the best you can. You can't take the good without the bad, because eventually you'll start to take it all for granted, and soon enough, you won't even be happy with the good stuff.
Honestly, if its up to me, I say don't waste your time wondering if there's a God. If you do believe in one, that's great, but don't ever let "God" stop you from doing something you want to do that is a "sin", like sex before marriage, or homosexuality. It doesn't really matter. Live your life the way you want to, and as long as you're not killing someone, or committing some other crime, do not worry about it for a second.
Life is what you make it, and you know what? If you spend your entire life, worrying about the after life, you're really not living. "The art of dying is my life to live", all that means is to live your life and live it well.
So, honestly, just to recap. I feel the Devil is a lie, God probably doesn't exist, and life is a bitch, but it gets easier from time to time. Some people can't handle that, knowing that they have to just count on other humans for support.
