SXSW stands for 'South By Southwest' and is usually a large festival in Austin, Texas, for all things entertainment. From musicians, to movies, to television actors, and YouTubers, its all there. One thing nobody expected to be at this festival, was any deaths or injuries. About 12:30am on March 13, 2014, a drunk driver drove into a crowd of people. He caused two deaths, and twenty three injuries. It has been said that the driver was fleeing a DUI check point while being chased by the police. According to Art Acevedo, Austin's chief of police, the two that were killed were on a moped that was struck by the driver after he had barreled into a group of people gathering outside the Mohawk for the House Of Vans showcase. After crashing through a barricade and into that crowd of people, he stopped the vehicle and attempted to flee by foot. Police officers eventually caught the man, and took him into custody. The man has yet to be named to the public, but is facing two accounts of capital murder, and twenty three counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle. Five of the people injured are in critical condition, but the rest appear to be in decent condition. Due to this incident, the show that everyone was lined up to see did not happen. Tyler The Creator was due to perform and tweeted the Tweet below. You can also watch some rather graphic footage from directly after the incident below. Thoughts and prayers go out to all of those injured in this incident, and to the families of those who lost their lives due to this.
SXSW is still happening now through March 16th. For more details on the events this festival still has in store, please go to sxsw.com.
