Bullet For My Valentine originally formed under the name Jeff Killed John and formed in 1998. The band is composed of Matt Tuck as the band's vocalist, Michael "Padge" Paget as the lead guitarist, Michael Thomas as the drummer and Jamie Mathias. They also in the past had two different bassists, Nick Crandle and Jason James. Interestingly enough when they formed as Jeff Killed John, they actually started by covering Metallica and Nirvana songs. You can actually find some of these covers and some other early songs on YouTube still, if anyone is interested. With that in mind, it will come as no surprise that some of the people who have influenced BFMV are Metallica, Iron Maiden and Slayer. Under their original name, between 1999 and 2004, they released two full length albums and three EPs. The name changed in 2004, supposedly for financial reasons, but none the less they re-branded themselves, moved away from nu-metal and into metalcore / thrash metal, and became BFMV as we all know them today. The band has sold over 5 million albums world wide over the years, and have toured all over with bands like Rob Zombie, Escape The Fate, Three Days Grace, Avenged Sevenfold, Asking Alexandria, and many, many more. As BFMV, they have released five full length albums, and four EPs, one of which was live. They made their debut as BFMV first in the UK with a self titled EP. This particular EP was never released here in the US, but then was released with one extra track, under a different name here in the US. It was called Hand Of Blood here in the states, and featured "4 Words (To Choke Upon)" which had previously been on the Japanese version of the self titled EP. None of the EPs BFMV released appear to have reached charts in the US, nor have any of them had wide success. However, the albums on the other hand have done much better. Their first full length album, The Poison came out on October 3, 2005 in the UK, and then Valentine's day 2006 in the US, and broke the top 50 in four different countries. It was 21 in the UK, 25 in Germany, 27 in Japan, and 43 in Austria. It didn't do that well at first in the US, as it charted at 128, but has since been certified gold in both the UK and US! That particular album features a couple of the songs that BFMV are known for. Such as, "Tears Don't Fall" and "All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me.)" The release of this album only helped their success grow, as it brought them out on Download festival, Warped tour, Earthday Birthday, and on tours where they opened up for Metallica and Guns N' Roses. Because of this album, they actually got to film their first live DVD, The Poison: Live At Brixton. The show was at Brixton Academy in London, and happened on January 28, 2006. The DVD then came out on October 30 of the same year, and was the entire track listing for The Poison performed live. In 2007, they began recording their second album, Scream Aim Fire, which came out on January 29, 2008. This album has sold over a million copies and half of those came from the US. It had massive success world wide, hitting number one in Japan, and breaking the top ten in Sweden, Ireland, the US, UK, Austria, Finland, and Germany. It actually hit number four in the world, and has been certified Gold in the UK and Australia. This album also has a deluxe edition that came out in December of the same year that features four bonus tracks, and a DVD that features music videos and behind the scenes footage. This album produced three other singles that BFMV are known for, the singles were "Scream Aim Fire", "Hearts Burst Into Fire", "Waking The Demon." In support of the album, they went on tour around North American and Australia with Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold and Blessthefall. Then came their 2010 release, Fever. Its said that they went back to their roots a bit for this album, and went back to The Poison sound, but we personally feel like its something all on its own. Fever came out on April 26, 2010, and features songs like "Your Betrayal", "The Last Fight" and "Bittersweet Memories." This album came with many singles over the course of a couple of years, and was another very successful album. It hit number 3 in the US, Finland, and Germany, two in Austria, five in the UK and Australia, seven in Switzerland, eight in Japan, nine in New Zealand, fourteen in Sweden, and 25 in France. You can also find beautiful acoustic versions of two of the three singles, "Your Betrayal" and "The Last Fight" online, if you poke around long enough. They're unofficial releases, as far as we know, but definitely worth looking up. In 2011, they began writing their fourth studio album, Temper, Temper, which ended up coming out in Australia on February 8, 2013 and then world wide on the 11th. The album did fairly well all over the world. The highest it went was number three, and that was in Austria. It reached number four in Australia, five in Germany and Finland, number 9 in Switzerland, eleven in the UK, 13 in the US, 14 in New Zealand, 17 in Japan, nineteen in Sweden, and lastly 51 in France. In between the Temper Temper album, and their latest album, which we will talk about in just a moment, it was announced that singer Matt Tuck had a side project called AxeWound. We all know that with side projects, comes rumors of break ups. Obviously, these rumors proved to be extremely false, seeing as BFMV is still active four years later, but the band has released just one one album and hasn't done anything sense. Now we can talk about BFMV's most recent release, Venom. Venom was released on August 14, 2015 and was the first album BFMV ever released to hit number one. It didn't just hit number one in one country but two! Those two countries are Australia and Switzerland. it also reached number two in Austria and Germany, three in the UK, four in Finland, eight in the US and New Zealand, nine in Japan, forty-two in France and 46 in Sweden. In support of the album, they have been doing a bunch of touring, and aren't stopping any time soon! Coming up in just a few weeks are dates in Japan, many festivals in the US and Europe, and the second leg of the British Invasion tour with Asking Alexandria! The tour begins May 3 in Atlanta, GA and goes through May 25. Just before the tour is the Fort Rock and Welcome To Rockville festivals, and just after is Rocklahoma and River City Rockfest. During the tour, they will also be Carolina Rebellion, and Rock On The Range. Stay up to date with BFMV by heading on over to their website! Fort Rock is one of the only big things Southwest Florida has going on, and Immortal Music is hoping to cover it for the second year in a row. This year its going to be the biggest one yet, and the absolute biggest festival Immortal Music has ever tried to cover. Because of that, we thought it would be a good idea to get as much coverage as possible done for it, and of course that starts way in advance. We've decided to start a series that will last now until the week of the festival, where we talk about different artists that are performing. Its kind of a fun way to give people some information on each band, while giving some opinions on each one. These opinions do not always come from Immortal Music alone, we are trying to include fans as well, as often as we're capable. Then we will also have some random blog posts regarding the festival, album reviews, and of course, news. The festival is about five months away as of right now, so there's going to be a lot of content! To keep it all contained and neat in one place, we decided to make a directory of all the content. We have done this once before for a festival that happened in October 10, and some of the artists that played Rock Allegiance 2015 are also playing Fort Rock 2016. So, we thought we would include some of the relevant content from that as well. It may not have been written with Fort Rock in mind, but is still relevant. We only included reviews that were written with Rock Allegiance in mind, because all the news is old now. That being said, we did include some stuff that was written just before Fort Rock was announced because it related to artists playing the festival. If you want to look back, please feel free to do so here. Now let's get on with the content. -Previously Written (For Rock Allegiance) - All of these were written September 2015 or sooner. This directory was originally put together on December 28,2015. The date was changed to make it easier to find while we add to it. I was watching YouTube the other day, as I do every day and a specific video came up in my news feed that gave me an idea. It was from content creator, Emma Blackery, and she was talking about albums that have changed her life. They're albums that made her love music, or see the world differently, and I thought it was an awesome video. Then again, anything regarding the love of music is something I love. Seeing her video though, made me want to talk about the albums that have impacted me as well. I am positive I've done this in the past, but I thought it would be fun to do it again, with some more albums and much more detail. As I've said previously all over the website and probably on Facebook as well, music has always been something I have loved. It just developed a lot over the years, and the taste also changed. I went from being your standard fangirl to the journalist I am today. This is a rambling timeline of that, if you just would like a list, head on over to Facebook. I may just put a list there, or I may not, and you'll just have to read it to find out. We shall see. The first album I remember really enjoying was the Backstreet Boys Millennium album. My mom bought it, and I was only six when it came out, but I remember playing their music over and over again. I had to look at the track listing to remember which albums I really liked, because I only actively remember singing along to some of the hits and being convinced I was going to marry Nick Carter while a friend of mine was going to marry Aaron Carter, and then we would be sisters. I sincerely remember saying that to someone when I was under the age of nine, and I laugh at it now. Its sort of funny now because BSB reminds me of when I was little, but looking at the track listings, I literally only remember maybe four tracks from each album, and I kind of lost interest around their return in 2005. The next album I remember loving was Hilary Duff's Metamorphosis album. I loved her so much that my parents honestly thought I was a lesbian for a while. They actually thought that until my next musical obsession came in and I will get into that shortly. When her album came out, I was already a fan of her because of Lizzie McGuire, as most 90s girls were. I heard "Why Not" on Disney Channel, partly in promotion for the Lizzie McGuire movie and somehow I ended up completely obsessed for a couple of years. In my memory, it was like four years, but looking back at it, it was only like two. Hilary Duff was my first concert when I was eleven years old and sadly, I barely remember any of it! We only have one picture that turned out at all from that show, and its of me screaming. Lovely, right? All I remember from that show is what she was wearing, questioning how she could run in heels, and that she played "Wake Up", "Who's That Girl" and I wanna say she played "Rock This World" but I could be dead wrong. I can't even tell you if she played hits like "So Yesterday" and "Why Not" because I honestly don't remember. Then came what was my worst and last real music obsession. The Jonas Brothers. I actually laugh at how this began because when I first heard them, I thought it was total crap. My best friend had just gotten their debut album, It's About Time, and I remember she would not stop playing it on repeat! I actually remember saying, "Turn this off, its crap." She turned off the CD, and then promptly turned on their "Year 3000" video on the television in the living room and kept that on repeat for an hour while we baked some cookies. By the time I got her to turn it off, "Year 3000" was stuck in my head, and then she caught me trying to work her CD player so I could get it out of my head. The rest was history. The It's About Time album was the first album I remember buying with my own money, and I honestly am proud that I own that album. Its semi rare to have, and I got it just at the cusp of it becoming hard to find. I remember I did have to order it from the internet, because I couldn't find it anywhere, and then set out on the four year fangirl life. I own every single one of their albums, hundreds of posters from teen magazines, learned everything I possibly could about them, and saw them live on their World Tour in 2009. While now, you cannot actually tell I was once a massive Jonas Brothers fan, you still see inklings here and there. The facts are so engraved in my head from all those years of obsession that every now and then one will just randomly slip out. Though now I usually back it up with, "Or at least that's what the internet told me." Because I don't know if any of the useless information I remember is actually factual at all. But anyways, this wasn't about me being a fangirl, this was the love of music. It was their second album, which is was their self titled album that I think really made me fall in love with them but also grow more of an interest in music. Well, that one and a bit of the third album, A Little Bit Longer. The lyrics on those albums really drew my attention, and I began wanting to know more about the situations that inspired them, and more about them as people. That's when I started looking up interviews, now that I think about it. I don't think I had actually bothered to look up a single one for any artist back then, until around this time. By the way, Jonas Brothers (the album) came out in 2007, and A Little Bit Longer came out in 2008. Something else that I hold close to me is I honestly think the Jonas Brothers are what kept my best friend and I close after she moved away. We really bonded over them, and I do think they lent a hand in the fact that I still talk to her ten years later. I actually did listen to other bands around this time, but as I've discovered over the years, nobody was aware I liked any other bands that weren't the Jonas Brothers. Friends had been exposing me to Fall Out Boy for years, but I kind of just didn't pay much attention for a while, but I got where I would turn them on for myself. Same with My Chemical Romance and Simple Plan actually. I think this was also around the same time I discovered bands like Good Charlotte, All American Rejects, Cartel, The Maine, A Day To Remember, maybe Mayday Parade, but I feel like Mayday may have come a bit later too. I can't fully remember. I also, now that I think about it want to say this was around the same time I found All Time Low. In fact, now that I really am thinking about it, I know it was because I got into them before Nothing Personal came out. I only remember that because I pre-ordered it, and I want to say that was the first album I ever pre-ordered. So 2008 was the turning point for me with music. I started shying away from the Disney stars, and pop over all, and getting into pop punk and rock music. I remember some of my friends kind of teasing me about that fact that I only really liked people from Disney Channel, so I started forcing myself to get into other music. Given how I am today, apparently that was a good choice. I actually remember sitting at the computer and thinking to myself, "What bands do I know of that I could look up?" Only three names came to my mind at the time, and that was Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Three Days Grace. I probably looked up FOB and MCR first, because of friends, but Three Days Grace became one of the most special bands in my life. I knew who they were because of the movie Raise Your Voice, which circle back to what I said about Hilary Duff for a second because I literally only saw the movie because she was in it. Its a beautiful movie and they go to a Three Days Grace concert in the movie. I honestly thought they were not real when I saw the movie because my silly eleven year old brain thought that if it was mentioned in a movie, it couldn't be real. I don't know where I came up with that honestly, and to this day I think its hilarious especially because of how important they became to me. Its a bit hard to say which Three Days Grace album means so much to me. I want to say Life Starts Now, but it wasn't out yet when I got into them. So really, its a mix of Three Days Grace, One -X and Life Starts Now. Transit Of Venus not so much, though I do have that album as well. Honestly, they spoke to me so much that I really do thank Adam Gontier for changing my life. Looking back at it, obviously it was a slow process over many years, but his lyrics, and his voice are what have gotten me through a lot. There's actually been many times over the years where nothing would calm me down except Three Days Grace. I actually remember the first time I turned to music because things weren't going right and I know I've told this story before but its worth telling again. I had just walked away from people I had called my friends for several years, and and was heartbroken. I couldn't quit thinking about it, and needed to just drown it out. So I shoved my earbuds in my ears and turned on the loudest stuff I had, curled up on the front seat and just listened to it in tears. At the time, I didn't really have that much yet. I still remember what this playlist had in it, it was parts of Bullet For My Valentine's The Poison and Scream Aim Fire albums, Three Days Grace's self titled and One X albums and a few select songs here and there from a band called I Am Ghost. An internet friend had told me about them, and BFMV actually. Anyways, so I was just sitting there in the front seat of my mom's car with my earbuds in and very upset. I remember at the time I had no idea what Matt Tuck was screaming in a couple songs, I had only just found them not long before that but I liked what I was hearing so I had it on my iPod. So I thought if I focused hard enough on trying to figure out what he was saying, I would just forget something was wrong, and feel better. I remember doing that specifically with "Waking the Demon", and then it switched to Three Days Grace. I don't remember what song exactly, and because there was more TDG than anything in the playlist, it primarily played them. It calmed me down so much that I nearly fell asleep, and after that I never looked back. Fast forward a few years, because while I have loved music this entire time, and constantly find albums I grow attached to, I wouldn't say there's been a ton of newer ones that have really had a massive impact on me. That is until last year. Last January Papa Roach released their F.E.A.R album. That album is incredible and really gets you to stop and think. Ever have find yourself staring at a screen with your mouth open in shock because the artist seemed to literally be speaking your feelings or thoughts? Yeah, that's what I did with this album. Particularly "Skeletons", and "Broken As Me." "Broken As Me" was because it felt like a follow up to "Scars" which is my favorite song. Now I realize I actually didn't mention Papa Roach at all through all of this, and to be honest, I have absolutely no idea when I got into Papa Roach. It was late in the game, though I had always heard of them. Funnily enough, my dad has had their Infest album since it was new and I can remember thinking it was gross. Not because of the music, I hadn't heard it when I was little, but because it had a roach on the cover and I didn't like bugs. I laugh my ass off at this now because they were the first band to ever get their lyrics on my body. I think I actually started listening to Papa Roach because of "Scars" but it was far from new when I found it. Like it was probably 2010 when I found it an the Getting Away With Murder album came out in 2005. Given how popular "Last Resort" and "Getting Away With Murder" are, I obviously had already heard the songs, but I didn't actively listen to Papa Roach for quite some time. (Disclaimer now, I don't just like their new stuff, but the FEAR album really is a work of art and yes is my favorite Papa Roach album.) Now for the most recent album that I would say has had some sort of impact on me. This one is still fairly new, only came out in September of last year and was Bring Me The Horizon's That's The Spirit. First, I want to say I'm sorry but this is the first BMTH album I have truly loved. I enjoyed Sempiternal as well, but honestly all of their other work has given me a headache. I've listened to most of it and would love to enjoy it but just don't. Lyrically though, they've always been very talented and I really do wish I enjoyed the early music. BUT That's The Spirit is so good! I admit, I am that person that's been playing it on repeat pretty much since it came out. I relate to some ofi t, and just love the rest that I don't relate to. Also "True Friends" really reminds me of that time I told you about previously where I first turned to music. Its also proven to be really relatable for today, but I won't get into that. That's just me being bitter, but moving on! And "Throne", its so empowering! I just love it. The whole album is great, and I really do encourage you to go listen to it right now if you haven't yet. Or even if you have, do it anyways. I honestly feel like there's something I forgot, but I kind of just let myself write about whatever albums came to mind, and the stories surrounding them. So, maybe its more genuine that way, maybe this whole thing was super annoying. I don't know but I had fun writing it and that's what matters to me right now! I may actually write a list of songs specifically that I have had some sort of impact on me because that sounds like fun but be prepared, its also going to be very long! Let me know what albums impacted your life here or on Facebook and Twitter, I'm really curious! Its a lot of fun to talk about this stuff. Pennywise is a punk rock band from Hermosa Beach, CA. They originally formed in 1988 and named themselves after the evil clown Stephen King created in his book, It. The band actually features almost all of the founding members. Those members are, Jim Lindberg as the vocalist, Fletcher Dragge as the guitarist, Bryon McCackin on drums, and Randy Bradbury, who actually joined in 1996. The band's original bassist, Jason Thirsk unfortunately committed suicide at the age of 28. He did suffer from depression, and had also been to rehab for alcoholism. After his passing, the band did decide to continue on, which is where Randy came in. Let's rewind for a second though and go back to the late 80's, when it all began for Pennywise. They released two EPs on their own in 1989 on their own and those were A Word From the Wise and Wildcard. A couple of the songs off of A Word From The Wise actually are featured on their latest album, "Yesterdays." Over the years, the band has releaased eleven studio albums, a live album, two EPs and a DVD. The debut album came out on October 22, 1991 and was self titled. Neither it, or the second album, Unknown Road, which came out in 1993 reached any charts. Around this time, the band's front man, Jim Lindberg got married and Unknown Roads assisted in getting them some better exposure. Despite not charting, they began getting some attention and went out on tours with bands like The Offspring. The third one though is what started to bring them some attention. About Time came out on June 13, 1995, and it didn't do amazingly, but it broke the top 100 in five different countries. It only hit 96 here in the US, 55 in Australia, 76 in Germany, 84 in the Netherlands, and it actually reached 24 in Finland! So now they were on the map, and the attention began to come through a bit more. Obviously success always fluctuates but it started growing from here in various different ways. In 1996, the band began recording their fourth album, and their bassist, Jason Thirsk left the band to deal with alcoholism. As we said before, he did unfortunately commit suicide, but this apparently was after a successful rehabilitation. The album they had been recording was Full Circle, and came out on April 22, 1997, and was dedicated to Jason in his honor. Its highest chart rating was actually in Australia and reached number 13. It also hit 79 in the US, 38 in Germany, 93 in the Netherlands, and 36 in New Zealand. Making it the first Pennywise album to chart at all in New Zealand. This album also features a re-recorded version of a song that was on their first album, to remember their late friend. The song is called "Bro-Hymn" and when they re-recorded it, they titled it, "Bro-Hymn (Tribute.)" On June 1, 1999, Pennywise released their fifth studio album, Straight Ahead, and they received their highest chart ratings yet! This album hit number 8 in Australia and number 12 in New Zealand. It also hit number 62 here in the US, 93 in Germany and 193 in the UK. That may not sound great, but its another country they broke into for the first time, so that ais very exciting! Charting at all is extremely exciting actually. Tha album also had just one single, which was "Alien", and that one single reached number 36 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks, so that's also exciting. Land Of the Free? came out in 2001 and hit number 2, on the US Indie Charts, 21 in Australia, 32 in New Zealand, 67 on the Billboard 200, 89 in Switzerland and 134 in the UK. This to date is still one of the most successful albums here in the US, others have done well here like The Fuse (2005), and Yesterdays (2014) reached number 9, All Or Nothing (2012) reached number 10, and Reason To Believe (2008) reached number 12. All of those are on the US Indie charts, by the way. Interestingly, they decided to remaster their first four albums and re-release them all in 2005, and there was also an Australian tour that got canceled. This lead to a lot of rumors of a break up, and something tells us that the rumors didn't exactly die down for a while. The band released Reason to Believe free on Myspace, and it did fairly well. 400,000+ copies were downloaded, and they had a good run for quite some time after that. Then came a slight turning point. In 2009, Jim Lindberg decided to leave the band. His statement was as follows. "After 20 years, nine albums and thousands of shows around the world, my time in Pennywise has come to an end. Being the singer for this band has been an amazing experience, and along the way we made some of the best fans anyone could ask for. I want to express my deepest thanks to all of you for sticking with us over the years, especially through the passing of Jason years ago. It's your support and encouragement that kept me going this long. There are few things that made me more proud than seeing people at our shows singing our songs. I would also sincerely like to thank everyone who helped us along the way, in every capacity, we never could have done it without you, and I wish everyone in the Pennywise family the best of luck and continued success. Yours truly, Jim." In his place was Zoli Téglás, singer for hardcore punk band, Ignite. He filled in on vocals for a festival, while Jim worked on a documentary that was based off a book he wrote. The book was called Punk Rock Dad: No Rules, Just Real Life and the documentary was called The Other F Word, and was released on November 6, 2011. The band did announce that that Zoli was going to permanently take over for Jim, but that did not happen. He did contribute to the 2012 album, All Or Nothing, and did a bunch of touring with the band. Unfortunately though, he hurt his back in June 2012 while performing in Germany and had to have an emergency surgery. For obvious reasons, they did have to cancel all of their touring activity for the rest of the year, because back surgery is not something you easily bounce back for. Supposedly Zoli wished to leave the band after all of this, and had been in touch with Jim, in the hopes he would rejoin. Jim agreed, and he actually returned at a show in Brazil as part of a South American festival tour! Not long after, in early 2013 actually is when they began working on their latest album, Yesterdays! The album came out on July 15, 2014, and we have yet to hear of any new music in the works. Instead though, Pennywise is going to be going out on tour and performing at many festivals. The touring starts on April 29 in Fort Lauderdale, and will go through May 15. During the tour, they will perform at Welcome To Rockville, Fort Rock, and Carolina Rebellion. Just five days after the tour ends, they will also perform at the 10th annual Rock On The Range festival! For a list of exact tour dates, and more things they have coming up, please head on over to the official Pennywise website! Psst! Before you go, we have reviews for a few of Pennywise's albums! We have reviewed All Or Nothing, Reason To Believe and Yesterdays! More reviews for Pennywise are hopefully coming soon, so please stay tuned. Okay, so the Warped tour lineup was announced in full today. Given the complete explosion the leaked but possibly fake lineup I posted the other day gave my website, I absolutely had to talk about this. Plus, some of the bands kind of surprised me, so there was also that factor. First, let me say this, the lineup the other day that I posted was 100% REAL. It was just incomplete because not every band performs at every venue. The lineup we saw the other day was just for the August 9 date, which is at a Hard Rock in Las Vegas. Every single band they announced is actually performing, and then there's a ton more where that came from. If you haven't seen what I'm talking about, click here to see the leaked lineup from a few days ago, and click here to see the Warped tour lineup in full. Now I want to talk about who is performing. ATREYU AND BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE?? Literally when Kevin Lyman was talking about putting on heavier bands on Warped tour, I fully expected the video clip to say bands like Of Mice And Men, or Motionless In White, but not Atreyu and BFMV. He did name Motionless In White, which I wasn't surprised by, but these two baffled me! They just seem too.....for lack of better words, big for Warped Tour, and not their usual style. I suppose that was the point though. There's also White Chapel, which is extremely heavy, and most people saw that on the leaked lineup and assumed it was fake. Part of me did too, but at the same time, I didn't know. I'm not a fan of theirs, so I didn't totally care either. Another one that shocked me a bit was From Ashes to New, mostly because they just finished a tour with Five Finger Death Punch not that long ago and for some reason Five Finger Death Punch and Warped tour just don't go in a sentence together. Unless that sentence is 'From Ashes to New has performed with Five Finger Death Punch and on Warped tour." Apparently. I was also thrown off by Sum 41, but not because of their genre, but because I forgot they were still active. Completely forgot, please forgive me. Now alternatively, I was very excited to see Good Charlotte and then totally disappointed to realize they join the lineup nearly three weeks AFTER Warped tour comes near me. I have a love/ hate thing for Warped tour, okay? I tend to hate how its organized. I had a bad experience in 2012 and despite having a good experience at a different venue in 2015, the first impression just left a bad taste in my mouth regarding Warped tour. Problem is, I tend to LOVE the lineup. And this year is really no different. There was a ton of bands I had never heard of, but given the clips I heard during their webcast, I was impressed. There's also many bands I do really enjoy on the lineup. Some of those bands include Mayday Parade, The Maine, Sleeping With Sirens, Falling In Reverse, State Champs, Bullet For My Valentine, Atreyu, Motionless In White, Tonight Alive, Four Years Strong, New Found Glory, The Summer Set, ect. I was actually really excited to see The Summer Set back on the lineup because if I remember correctly, they performed a few years back, and we actually saw them with All Time Low in 2012 and really enjoyed their set. So it would be nice to see them again, same thing with Mayday Parade. We've actually never seen any of the ones we mentioned above, minus Mayday and BFMV. We've seen them both, and they're both wonderful. We have yet to see any of the others, though I did actually meet Alan from Four Years Strong very briefly at Warped tour, actually. It was Warped tour 2012, I was very stressed out and pissed off when I met him, all I said was hello and shoved my way past him to get to the press area I had only just found after two hours of searching. Still something I remember to this day though because before that a friend had begged me to get a picture for her or something if I met him, and I was too frazzled to give a shit at that second. I could have gotten a group hug tackle from All Time Low at that moment and I probably would have told them to fuck off because I was that exasperated at the time. Why did I tell that story? I don't know. Moving on. Anyways, I'm a bit torn, guys! The lineup looks great, but given everything (one of those things being I live in Florida and summer heat is actually Hell down here) I really don't know what to think. Chances are though, I probably will go and just be chugging the fuck out of some water bottles and coming home with a nasty sunburn. What do you guys think of the lineup this year? Are you as baffled yet torn as I am? Do you even give a shit? I don't know. Please let me know in the comments or over on Facebook and Twitter. Let's get a conversation going again, that was a lot of fun the other day. Sixx.A.M is a hard rock band that formed in 2007 and is out of Los Angeles, California. Something that many people instantly think of when they hear Sixx.A.M is Mötley Crüe, and that is because this is the side project for Nikki Sixx, who is obviously the bassist for Mötley Crüe.
The band consists of James Michael as the lead singer, DJ Ashba on lead guitar, Dustin Stienke on drums and of course, Nikki Sixx on bass, also Melissa Harding and Amber Vanbuskirk, who contribute to the vocals. The band has three EPs, and three albums, and is known for songs such as "Life Is Beautiful", "This is gonna hurt" and "Lies of the Beatiful People." Fun possible fact too, the name is a combination of the member's last names. Sixx. A(shba).M(ichael)! So that's rather creative, and not something you hear of extremely often. Sixx.AM released their debut album, The Herion Diaries Soundtrack on August 21, 2007. The album debuted at #26 on the Billboard charts, and it serves as a soundtrack for Nikki Sixx's autobiography. The autobiography's full name was The Herion Diaries: A Year in the Life Of A Shattered Rock Star, which talks a lot about Nikki's herion addiction he had in the late 80's. He also had a quarter of the profits go to Running Wild In the Night, which is a charity for abused and abandoned children. The book came out on September 18, and was 413 pages long, and it featured a collection of diary entries Nikki Sixx wrote between Christmas of 1986 to the same time in 1987. The soundtrack though, actually features one of the most beautiful and popular Sixx.AM songs, "Life Is Beautiful." It encourages people to see the beauty around them, and stop and think. Its just a wonderful song, and its no wonder that its one of their most known songs. The band's second album, This is Gonna Hurt came on May 10, 2011, and also was a companion book. Nikki Sixx released a second book, This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography and Life Through the Distorted Lens on April 12, 2011, and this album goes with that book. The album debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200, and hit number one on the Hard Rock Charts. The first single from the album became another iconic song from Sixx.AM, which is "Lies of The Beautiful People." The song is beautiful and is something almost everyone can relate to. Its a sad fact of life that people say hurtful things and put people down, and this is talking about changing that and shutting down what people say. Its just a beautiful song that everyone should hear. They decided to release an acoustic EP in December 2011, that featured acoustic versions of hit songs like, "Lies Of The Beautiful People", "Life is Beautiful" and "This is Gonna Hurt." Despite what many believe, this seven track EP, appropriately called 7, was related to the seven deadly sins, but the band has said several times that there is no meaning to the name. It is only called 7 because there is seven songs. It doesn't go any deeper than that. The band's third and currently most recent album, Modern Vintage came out on October 7, 2014 and was introduced with the first single, "Gotta Get It Right", which came out in early August of 2014. Something interesting about this album is it features a cover from The Cars. They did a cover of the song, "Drive", and did a fantastic job. The fun hasn't stopped there though. That is the latest album Sixx. AM has out right now, but they will be releasing a two part album this year. The albums will be called Prayers For The Damned and pre-order are available now! The first part of album comes out April 29, and as it stands right now, we are not sure when Part 2 will be released! But when you pre-order part one, you will get the first single, "Rise" instantly. You can also get several different very unique bundles with your album, if you go through Sixx.AM's official website. Some bundles include candles with the band members on them, journals, vinyl copies, and t-shirts! While you're over there, be sure to take a look at their tour dates because they have a ton going on. They very soon will be going out on tour with Disturbed and Rob Zombie this May, and will be performing at many of the big festivals here in the Us coming up. Those festivals include Welcome To Rockville, Fort Rock, Rocklahoma, River City Rockfest, the KEGL's BFD 2016. Carolina Rebellion, 98.9 The Rock's Rockfest, Northern Invasion,Rock On The Range, MMRBQ Music Festival and Rock'n Derby. Many more outside of the US will be happening this summer, so for the European fans, make sure you go look at the tour dates! There's plenty to see, and plenty going on! 3 Doors Down is an American rock band that formed in 1996 in Mississippi. The band has had a handful of different lineup changes over the years, to the point that the only original member that remains is the lead singer, Brad Arnold. The lineup as it is today is Brad Arnold, Chris Henderson and Chet Roberts who are both on rhythm and lead guitar , Greg Upchurch on drums, and Justin Biltonen on bass.
Since 2000, 3 Doors Down have released six studio albums, four EPs, and a compilation album. Between those albums, they also have 23 singles, and have several multi-platinum albums. They also sold over 13 million albums in the US alone by July 2014. We can only imagine what its up to now, especially considering they have a new album out even. Their debut album, The Better Life has been certified platinum six times over by the RIAA, and features what may be the most popular song 3 Doors Down has ever released. That song is "Krypotonite." That single along has been certified platinum twice by the same company, and is one of those songs everyone knows, even if they have no idea who its by right away. Some would even go as far as to say it became an icon of the 2000s, because of how massively popular the song became. It, along with two other singles, "Loser", and "Duck And Run" reached number one on Mainstream Rock charts and set up the path for 3 Doors Down perfectly well. Their next studio album, Away From The Sun came just two years later, and peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200 charts. Its been certified platinum four times over, and features a couple other massive hits that are automatically associated with 3 Doors Down. "When I'm Gone" and "Here Without You." But reached number one, and "Here Without You" received two platinum certifications as well. The certifications keep on coming as well. Their third studio album, Seventeen Days also was certificated platinum and reached number one on the Billboard 200. The platinum streak broke with the fourth studio album, which was self titled. The self titled album was released in 2008, and still was certified gold. The lead single from that album, "Its Not My Time" became the fifth single from 3 Doors Down to reach the top of the Mainstream Rock chart, and the second one to reach the Adult Pop Charts. We're not even sure how it reached the top of a Pop chart, because they're far from Pop music, but its still extremely cool, none the less. Their fifth studio album, Time Of My Life peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and so far has not received any certifications. Neither has their sixth and newest album., Us And The Night, but that one is brand new. It only just came out on March 11. It peaked at number 34 here in the US, and because its so new, there's not a ton that can be said about it just yet. We have yet to hear the album, though we are hoping to fix that soon. The lead single however, "In the Dark" is doing very well, and has so far reached as high as number two on Mainstream Rock charts here in the US. 3 Doors Down has been seen as an iconic rock band since 2000, and they continue to go strong. This year is absolutely no different! What with the new album and all the performances they have coming up, they're doing quite well. They set out on tour starting on April 8, and will go all around the US consistently through May 29. During the tour, they will also be appearing at several festivals such as Welcome to Rockville, Fort Rock, Carolina Rebellion, and Rocklahoma. There's a few more performances that will be happening later in the summer as well. For more information, head on over to 3 Doors Down's official website. Today Bring Me The Horizon released their music video for "Follow You." They filmed it not that long ago in Los Angeles, and I only know that because it features a couple YouTubers as extras, who vlogged part of the day. I tried to catch them, but didn't quite catch them either. Maybe another time around I will, but for now, I want to talk about the video itself.
Before I do, I've giving you the spoiler alert warning. I will be talking about the video and details regarding the video. I also will be talking about what I pictured for the video, but only briefly because I did not have a full music video idea formed. I just definitely pictured the video very differently than they did, and wanted to talk about it. Perhaps see if others felt a similar way about it or not? Spoiler alerts are out of the way, and we've stalled just long enough, we can get into it all. Now, I do want to say that the video does go with the song completely, but I never really pictured it as being a zombie apocalypse. I like that it starts off with what sounds like a news broadcast, with a caption on the screen saying, "Love is blind, deaf and fucking dumb." (Especially since he's dating a zombie, and given the extremely blue bags under his eye, I'm guessing he's slowly turning into one.) That was wonderful, and there was plenty about the video I really did enjoy. An apocalypse would be Hell, and the song does say, "You can drag me through hell if it meant I could hold your hand." So, that's fitting, but I pictured it in a darker setting, and actually featuring the band. Something I briefly pictured was actually frontman, Oli Sykes and his beautiful wife, Hannah Snowdon, running through a dark, wooded area with smoke all around them and flames off in the distance. I don't really have anything else for the video in mind, but I may try to elaborate on it some, because that alone is sparking some sort of idea for me. So stay tuned, some creativity may actually come up from that! Anyways, I am not really a fan of the whole zombie craze, never really have been. That being said though, I totally see where they were coming from, and I actually love that he wasn't even phased by any of it. Not even his dog being shot right next to him -which made me jump a bit in front of my laptop, if I'm honest. He just happily walked through the streets as people are being shot, attacked, and eaten, with his headphones on, singing along. Some are saying that symbolizes that some people are taking that has he's following his heart and staying with her, while others are telling him its a toxic relationship. That's probably very true, but I also think it was a perfect representation of turning on your music and ignoring the world when things are going wrong. Because music helps everything. And then to reference "Happy Song", "If we sing along a little fucking louder to a happy song, we'll be alright." But surely, that's not the main thing, I just take everything and reference it back to music. My first thought with this video is, "What the hell is this? Why?" And then I watched it again, and it made a lot of sense. As I said, definitely not what I expected in the slightest, but definitely fitting as well. What did you think of the video? Let me know, because I'm really curious if anyone else was thrown off at first, and possibly didn't know what to think. You can do so here in the comments, or over on the Facebook page or Twitter! Bring Me The Horizon is a metalcore band based out of Sheffield, Yorkshire, and was originally formed in 2003. Their genre has changed several times over the year, and originally started as 'deathcore', which is very gutural and very different from their style today. The lineup as we know it today consists of mostly original members. There's Oli Sykes, who is the band's vocalist, Matt Kean who's on bass, Lee Malia as the lead guitarist, and Jordan Fish who joined in 2012.
Their first album, Count Your Blessings came out in 2006, and actually recieved a lot of contraversy because of the genre. Its thought to be the reason they have slowly progressed in their genre ever since, but that's more of an opinion from the internet rather than an actual fact. That being said, they have steadily just gotten more and more attention with each album release. Bring Me The Horizon now has six studio albums, two EPs, and three Gold certifications. Their latest album, That's The Spirit, which came out on September 11, 2015 is easily their most successful album to date. It hit number one in Australia and Canada, number 2 in the US, New Zealand, and the UK, and charted in the top ten in Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, Finland, Belgium, and Austraia. That's The Spirit has already been certified Gold in the UK, and lended a big hand in bringing BMTH more attention all across the globe. At least here in the US, it felt like we started hearing about Bring Me The Horizon a lot more after the release of their 2013 album, Sempiternal. They announced the album title in October of 2012, and then released the first single, "Shadow Moses" in January 2013. The song debuted on the BBC Radio One, and got such a response that Epitaph Records felt pressured to release the music video for the song a week earlier than originally planned. This was the band's fourth studio album, and they were already very well known, but this album drastically changed their sound. At the time of the release, we would not have said we were fans of BMTH, so we ignored the hype for this album for quite some time. Then many different people stated that this album was extremely different from their other works, and decided to give it a chance and see for ourselves. We were definitely impressed, and thanks to that album would now say we're fans of BMTH. Something we discovered while doing some research was that the majority of this album was actually recorded on Oli Sykes laptop, and was recorded after some very extensive touring, which has proven to be a consistent thing in BMTH's career. They still tour practically non stop today, and it appears as though they always have. Over the years, they have performed along side tons and tons of different bands, suhc as I Killed The Prom Queen, The Ghost Inside, The Blackout, Bullet For My Valentine, Atreyu, Parkway Drive, The Devil Wears Prada, ect. Over the years, they've recieved a good handful of controversay, especially over their lyrical content. Its a common fact that Oli Sykes has been very depressed and he has been suicidal in the past, so because of that, their lyrics have expressed that from the start or some aggression. While that connects a ton of people, it does also make you stop and think sometimes as well. Some of their other contravsery has actually been stirred up and didn't totally involve the band directly. Many people were claiming that BMTH rips off Linkin Park after Oli spoke up about how they're an inspiration to him. People actually started nitpicking pieces of songs out and claiming it was "the same." Spoiler alert: Those people are assholes, and we never heard similiarities at all. Even if we did, its to be expected. There's only so many notes and cords you can do, so similarities do happen. Then very recently there was a stir over Coldplay's latest album cover resembling their Sempiternal album. It didn't resemble it a lot, and the Sempiternal cover is the Flower of Life, which is actually thought to be a structure that forms music. ""The distances between the spheres is identical to the distances between the tones and the half tones in music." So, there for, this whole thing was invalid. Despite some of the contraversy and drama, they're an extremely well loved band, and they are extremely busy! They always have been really, but the touring does not stop. They just concluded a South American tour, and will be doing a European tour beginning April 5. The tour lasts through April 22, and then they go straight into the US festival season. They will be performing at Welcome To Rockville, Fort Rock, Carolina Rebellion, Northern Invasion, and Rock On The Range. BUT WAIT, THERE'S EVEN MORE. They will go back over to England to perform at the BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend 26 on May 28. After that, they will be going all around Europe to play Rock Am Ring and Rock IM Park 2016 in Germany, Greenfield festival 2016 in Switzerland, Aerodrome Festival in the Czech Republic, Hellfest in France, the Amnesia Rockfest in Canada, AND many more through out the summer all over England They're also going to be heading down to Australia in September! For further information, we highly recommend you check out their official website, because you will find a ton of different dates and if you want to see them, you more than likely will find a date near you. They actually are coming near us, and we are hoping to see them! They're going to be at Fort Rock, we have never seen them before, and actually weren't a fan of them until Sempiternal came out. So, please don't shun us when reading our favorite songs below, because they all are from Sempiternal or That's The Spirit. Our favorite BMTH songs are, "True Friends", "Antivist", "Drown", "Throne", "Blasphemy", "Go To Hell For Heaven Sakes", "Can You Feel My Heart", "Happy Song", ect. Basically the entire That's The Spirit album has been played nearly on repeat since its release. Its honestly so good, in our opinion. What do you think of BMTH? Please let us know in the comments below, or over on Facebook and Twitter! On March 9, 2016, A Day To Remember released a thirty second clip of a brand new song, "Paranoia." They then announced that it would be out in full, music video and all on March 11. Sure enough, they released it right at midnight, but I was laying in bed at midnight, and while I saw it was released, was falling asleep, so I didn't actually watch the music video until this morning. I thought it would be fun to write about my thoughts on the song and video, and I hope you guys let me know what your thoughts on it all are as well! You can do that here, through Facebook or Twitter. Take your pick! Anyways, so now you clearly know not to go on if you haven't seen the video. If you go on and haven't seen the video, you're going to get spoilers and chances are, you don't want that. You can watch the video by clicking here, and I insist that you do so before carrying on if you have yet to watch the video. If you carry on without watching the video, well, you were warned of the spoilers and at this point, there's nothing I can do to stop you. With the spoiler disclaimers out of the way, we can now discuss this video. I'm a big A Day To Remember fan, so I was very excited to hear they were releasing a new song. I liked the clip, but was a little thrown off by the fact that I couldn't really catch what Jeremy Mcckinnon was screaming through most of that clip. But, none the less, I was still very intrigued. The music is A Day To Remember as they've always been, on the harder side of pop punk. A few moments here and there are heavier, but that's just normal for them. The lyrics refer to a lot of mental problems. Such as paranoia -obviously, since the title-, anixety, insomina, all of that. "I'm like a time bomb ticking in your hand." I'm not picking up on every lyric right now, just by listening to it but I know he goes on to say someone can't just fix it and then adds, "Its all in your head." He's not wrong, but that doesn't make it better. If anything, that probably makes it worse, because you know some of the problems aren't real, your brain is just telling you they are. In the video, we see Jeremy in therapy, we also see the entire band performing under what appears to be a bridge and them running through a crowd, clearly away from something. We later see that the thing they're running from is the shadowy man previously shown on the artwork for the single. I'm assuming he symbolizes the constant paranoia (and probably anixety), that's always following people who suffer from such things around. That being said, while I like it, and love that they had the figure screaming the lyrics back at the band as they're cowaring against a fence, it really reminds me of another somewhat iconic character in music. Disturbed has always had 'The Guy', and frankly, when I see this shadowy figure, I picture The Guy. They are obviously different, and personifed completely differently, but even the eye shape is similar. The use of it is very creative, and that's something I appreciate but it does make me wonder just a little bit. Am I the only one that sees the similarity there? I genuinely am curious if anyone else sees that. Also, just wanted to throw this out here, but as someone who is not comfortable with the dark, having the figure reaching out from the darkest corner of the room to grab Jeremy is terrifying. If I was him, I wouldn't have just turned my back and pretended it wasn't there, I would have probably ran out of the room. Over all though, I did like what I heard, and thought the video was very creative. I'm honestly excited to hear more and hope they do release an album soon. Its also made me even more excited to hopefully see them at Fort Rock next month! Its the very first time I will ever get to see them because for being a Florida band, they really don't play here enough and when they do, they sell out almost instantly because people are excited to finally see them! So, this should be wonderful! Let me know what you think of the song and video! I want to know. You can let me know here, or over on Facebook and Twitter. And I really do encourage you to do so, the interaction is a lot of fun and I honestly really do want to know if anyone else feels the same way as I do about the shadow figure in the video. |
