Last week, we reintroduced something we used to do every year here on Immortal Music. Every winter, we would do a set of awards based off of suggestions given by you guys! The suggestions then went into polls, and through that, we were able to determine true winners. We have not done a proper round of the immortal Music Awards since late 2016, until now! Obviously, it is not winter, and due to everything going on right now, we actually do not have a lot to work off of for 2020 just yet. So this particular set of awards is based off of releases and activity in 2019.
Over the last week, we asked you guys who your favorites were for ten different categories, and now they are all in their voting stages. These polls are going to be up and valid now through May 1, and we absolutely need your input in order to determine a winner. Once we do so, I'll post the winners, and hopefully give the chosen musicians the love and credit they deserve. There's a high chance that none of them will see these awards, but that's okay. The credit is still given where its due, and hey, its fun for all of us.
Please be sure to vote for your favorites for all of the polls below, and share with your friends. The more the merrier! To vote, please click on each category name. That will take you to a poll made special for this occasion. Votes cast through comments anywhere will not be counted!
Once again, the voting is on now through May 1, which is next Friday! Cast your votes now, spread it around. Tell your friends, tell your family, pick one out for your dog. The more the merrier!
I had a couple people express interest in me bringing back the Immortal Music Awards, which for those who don't know, was an annual thing I did every winter until 2016. It does not appear as though I have done a real one ever since, due to a lot of things. Mostly being discouragement and burn out due to algorithms fighting me, and just the hitting a creative wall. If I'm honest, I'm still a little bit hesitant to try this, as I'm not certain I'm really going to get a good amount of responses in order to do this properly. But, when two people who do not know each other express interest, and general responses on the page have been semi frequent lately, I'll give it a shot. We've all got nothing better to do at the moment, right? And maybe it'll open up some conversations that'll make everyone happy.
Due to it being only April, not the end of the year, the questions are going to be generalized, and regard 2019 for the most part. The year is still new, and with all the stuff going on with Covid-19 a lot of albums are being pushed back, tours and festivals are being completely canceled, ect. We just don't have enough to work with for 2020, so that's why this one is going to be a little bit different.
You guys can choose to answer the categories here, private message us on Facebook or answer on individual posts yet to come. Once some answers come in, I'll try to find a way to make a poll again, and we'll try to actually determine winners for each post. If that doesn't work, I'll just let everyone know the most popular answers and go from there. The categories are as follows;
To go with these, there's also a few questions. Who are you hoping to have new music from this year? Out of the albums already announced for 2020, what one are you most excited for? Assuming we're actually allowed to gather in groups again at some point this year, who are you most excited to see live?
Once again, there are many ways you can participate. Those options are commenting below, private messaging the page, or on individual posts yet to come. Check the page for that, they're coming soon. I am going to start making those posts after I posted this, so please look at the page for those. The more answers the better, though try not to comment on every single source. I don't want someone getting an unfair advantage, I just want this to be fair.
So, please submit your answers! We'll work on this over a week or so, just to give everyone some time to get their opinions in, and give a balance.
I look forward to your answers and hope you guys have some fun with this.
So last night a friend IMed me and asked what my go to songs when I was angry were. We all have those go to songs, the songs that fuel the emotion, and just feel aggressive. I instantly named a few songs, as did she, and the conversation was sort of left at that. But I keep thinking about it, and there were so many more songs I didn't even think of at the moment. I have no idea why this is still on my mind, but thought, hey, might as well write them out since its on my mind!
I'm actually not currently mad about anything, I'm actually in a decent mood at the time of writing this. But a good song is a good song, and I think a lot of people out there will still agree with it. Also sorry I keep just making lists, its oddly entertaining for me, and I just hope someone else out there enjoys it as well. Here's a list of songs I turn to when I'm pissed off.
1. Gasoline -I Prevail
2. Bow Down- I Prevail (Is anyone even a little surprised? If you've been around for a while, I'm sure you're not)
3. Waking The Demon -Bullet For My Valentine (This is the original one for me! First song I ever remember turning to to fuel the emotion was this)
4. People = Shit -Slipknot
5. The Devil In I- Slipknot
6. Mr. Highway's Thinking About The End -A Day To Remember
7. The Downfall Of Us All -A Day To Remember
8. Antivist- Bring Me The Horizon
9. Taste of Regret -Of Mice And Men
10. Where Did It Go? -Asking Alexandria
11. Riot -Three Days Grace
I actually found it much harder to find exactly what I turn to while not actually in a mood. Its a bit of an instinctual thing when you're in the moment. You don't even have to think about it, just instantly gravitate toward certain songs. When you're not in the moment, it actually takes some thought. I feel like there's honestly so much more that I would normally turn to, but yet for some reason I can't think of much more.
I was looking through my music library and my first thought was "Well just about anything heavy works." But that's not necessarily true. Its still specific songs. Perhaps its just because I'm not in that mindset, or maybe I just need more caffeine, but my list is rather short right now.
What songs do you tend to turn to? Let us know in the comments either here or on Facebook. And while you're at it, I've been doing a lot like this lately just to pass the time. The other day, after talking with a few of you guys on the page, I began what will hopefully turn into a series. I made a playlist of things I've felt particularly drawn to lately, which you can read by clicking here. Or I also made a list of 50 empowering songs, which you can read by clicking here. There's also been a few other just light hearted fun posts made prior to both of those. You can just find those in the creator's blog, if you're interested.
Thank you for sticking around, and interacting. You guys don't know what it means to me even in normal times, but it means even more in these tough times. It sounds completely cheesy, but it does sincerely make me feel less alone. I'm sure I'll be back again soon with some other nonsense that nobody asked for. Talk to you guys soon.
So earlier, I was watching some music videos, and sharing them as I did so on the Facebook page. I always share music, whether or not I'm listening to any, but I will say something that's been genuinely making me happy during this whole quarantine is watching music videos and looking for new music. It really does take me back to my early days of first discovering rock and metal, and pop punk. Its actually made me forget temporarily about all the shit that's going on, and I actually feel happy again. Not a lot has been doing that lately, so once again, music wins. Nobody's surprised there.
While I was sharing some of the videos though, someone who's fairly new to the page commented on one asking if I have playlists anywhere because they were really enjoying the stuff I was sharing. This got me thinking maybe that would be a fun thing to do, so I asked you guys what you thought of me maybe making a weekly playlist. Just share what I'm feeling and maybe hear some of what you guys are feeling too. Well, like six people acknowledged the post, so that was good enough for me! Shout out to Oriane George for this idea! I hope you enjoy, and I hope everyone feels empowered to share what they're loving right now as well.
I can't promise I will actually do this every week, but it seems like something fun to try to keep up with, even if its just temporarily. So without further ado, here is the 'playlist' for quarantine week 4 for myself. I don't actually have a current playlist, this is just a list of songs I've noticed I'm turning on often, getting stuck in my head, or just simply felt like including.
1. Monsters -All Time Low
2. Something's Gotta Give- All Time Low
3. Sleeping In- All Time Low
4. Weightless - All Time Low
5. Taste Of Regret -Of Mice and Men

17. I Won't Break -Escape The Fate
18. The Downfall Of Us All -A Day To Remember
19. All I Want -A Day To Remember
20. Mantra -Bring Me The Horizon
I definitely could keep going but I gotta save something for future posts. So with that, here's the first playlist! Thank you again to Oraine for your comment, and for everyone else for supporting this idea! If I'm honest, your input and interactions mean the world to me. It reminds me of the early days of Immortal Music, and just brings the fun back to this whole thing ago.
Leave some of your own suggestions, full lists, whatever you might want, and I'll talk to you guys very soon.
I don't know about anyone else, but lately, I've been feeling rather down. Not a surprise, right? The world is a disaster area, and its not recommended to leave the house without a mask. Its a scary time for the world, we all know that. Who know living through a historic time was so damn tramuatic yet boring all at once. With that, and the fact that I feel like I'm somehow already running out of entertainment and its only been four weeks for me of isolation, I kind of feel like I need something that's uplifting, empowering, or just happy. In comes music, of course.
So, I did ask for some, and got a handful of really great answers. I'd like to include them but this was a few days ago now and I cannot find the post now. I've posted just enough that its been lost in the shuffle. So, if you'd like to suggest more, absolutely please do. You can do so in the comments below or over on Facebook, or Instagram because I think I will post there as well. But because I lost the post, and didn't give you guys any suggestions, just listened to yours, I decided to make a list of some happy/ inspirational/ uplifting songs that I already have.
Also, yes I have already done something similar to this lately. I've been a bit bored and for some reason making lists is one of several things I'm using to pass the time. If you want to see the other lists, which were my favorite songs by my top five favorite bands, and my favorite songs period. If not, keep on reading. Another quick note, these songs are not in any sort of order, just the order in which I thought of. They're not ranked in any way.
All the songs listed below are meant to inspire, empower, and just help you get through a tough time. Most of these I will say don't sound extremely happy, and they are not all rock, metal or pop punk. Most of them are, but I did slip in a couple that were just pop. I hope some of these really help someone you there feel a little better in this tough time, and just are reminded that they're not alone. They might not all be particularly happy songs, but every single one has a good over all message.

There's 50 songs that are meant to be empowering, inspiring, something. Something that will hopefully help your mental health some. Now there's hundreds of thousands of songs like this across all genres, but this is just what I could think of. Once again, please share any of the songs you can think of with us in the comments below, over on Facebook or Instagram.
Also know if anyone out there is struggling or just is bored and wants to talk, my DM's are completely open and I will answer as quickly as I can. I'm checking for messages multiple times a day just so nobody gets overlooked. I'm going to probably keep making lists like this because it really does take me back to when I first started doing this. Its kinda pointless, but its fun for me, so I'll probably keep doing it as the ideas come. I do also plan on doing reviews here and there, just haven't quite felt like it yet.
I'll talk to you guys soon, please continue to stay safe and once again, make sure to leave your suggestions!
So I made a post yesterday about my favorite songs, and mentioned what my favorite bands currently are as well. If you're interested in reading that, please click here. It was just a fun little post, as is this one, but its fun to just write about music related things for the hell of it again. We all need some more light fun right now, so why not keep going since I'm enjoying it.
In that post, I said I might go ahead and make a list of my favorite songs from each of my favorite bands. Its totally pointless and completely unnecessary, but hey, its fun so I'm doing it! To recap, I said my favorite bands are I Prevail, All Time Low, A Day To Remember, Shinedown and Papa Roach, in that order. Because of that, I will make this list in that same order, starting with I Prevail.
It seems a bit redundant to even name my favorites from I Prevail, because frankly, they don't have a single song I don't like. Hell, I include most of their discography into every playlist I've made since like 2016. I'll still narrow it down some, just for the whole purpose of this post. My favorites from them are: Bow Down, Hurricane, Breaking Down, Scars, and Stuck In Your Head.
All Time Low: Their list is going to be a bit longer, just due to the fact that they have eight albums now, and I have been a fan of them since before Nothing Personal came out just over ten years ago. My favorites from them would be Weightless (either verison of the song really) Something's Gotta Give, Poppin Champagne, Kids In The Dark, A Party Song (probably the Its Still Nothing Personal version), Somewhere In Neverland, Lost In Stereo, and Stay Awake.
A Day To Remember: I oddly think their list is on the shorter side, and I don't know why really. I find myself turning them on quite a bit and its not just the songs on this list. In all reality, I'll probably go back to this list at a later date and realize I forgot to name a few. Anyway, the songs are; All I Want, All Signs Point To Lauderdale, I'm Made Of Wax Larry What Are You Made Of, The Downfall Of Us All, Sometimes You're The Hammer Sometimes You're The Nail, and Have Faith In Me.
Shinedown: Shinedown is very close to my heart, not even just for the musical reasons. I solidly think they're the reason Immortal Music has grown to the level it has. I interviewed their guitarist, Zack Myers in 2014, and they shared not only the interview but the recap post I made about the evening. For several years, I got very consistent views, and I will forever thank them for that. Their songs are: Unity, Second Chance, Asking For It, Save Me, I Dare You, Breaking Inside, If You Only Knew, and I'll Follow You.
Papa Roach: I feel like over the years, I've grown less attached to them. When they released their Fear album in 2015, they absolutely were my number one band. I love them still, don't get me wrong, but I definitely will say I've grown away from them some as time as passed. I still have a decent list for them though, and those songs are as follows. Scars, Face Everything And Rise, Skeletons, Leader Of The Broken Hearts, Warriors, and of course who doesn't love Last Resort and Getting Away With Murder? Those just feel like a given.
Was this at all necessary? Absolutely not. Hopefully someone enjoyed it, I had fun putting it together. Once again feel free to let me know your favorite songs from either these bands, or your favorite bands. Also expect more pointless posts like this, its just good to write again, and it gives me something to do for a while that's not just cleaning my house or figuring out what other movies to watch. Talk to you soon, stay safe.
So, its most definitely just boredom setting in, but I was doing some thinking. If you're on the Facebook page a lot, you know a few of my favorite songs are, because there are a few songs I share often. However, I started thinking about it, and I've always had quite the extensive list of songs I feel particularly attached to, most of various reasons. I started thinking about it, and I'm not even sure what all would be on that list now.
This is definitely something I've done at some point over the years, and honestly, its fun for me to look back on. I looked through some of the old posts from the early days (2011-2013) and didn't see anything, but then I remembered I used to keep a short list of songs I was loving in the about me page. That's changed many times over the years, and I just realized its currently hidden from the public. I should probably finish that and make that public again, huh? I looked it over and it needs some serious editing and a make over, so stay tuned for that since I'm now aware of it.
Anyway, so here's a list of songs I feel are my favorites for now, just because why not? Please feel free to send me a list of your favorite songs as well! I have no reason for this, I just got kind of bored and started thinking about my favorite songs. There's only two I actually ever name, but there's absolutely a whole long list of songs I prefer. And the list changes, so it'll be fun to look back at sometime in the future.
Also, quick note. Aside from the first two songs, this isn't really in any order, it was just as I thought of them. I only named ten because surprisingly, when I really stopped to think about it, while there's tons of songs I find myself turning on often, there's not that many I feel particularly attached to for one reason or another.
1. Scars -Papa Roach
2. Bow Down -I Prevail
3. Weightless- All TIme Low
4. Unity -Shinedown
5. I Hate Everything About You- Three Days Grace
6. Famous Last Words -My Chemical Romance
7. Hold On -Jonas Brothers
8. Face Everything And Rise -Papa Roach
9. Hurricane -I Prevail
10. All I Want -A Day To Remember
Also just felt like adding, currently I would say my favorite bands are I Prevail, All Time Low, A Day To Remember, Shinedown, and Papa Roach. Probably in that order, actually.
I'm still questioning this list, like if there's more songs, or what order I would actually put them in if I was to stop and think about it. Now there's definitely other songs by all these bands that I love, and if anyone wants me to, I can make lists of all my favorites from all my favorite bands. I might do that anyway, just because why not?
Meanwhile, let me know your favorite songs and bands. I'm actually really enjoying the semi aimless writing about music again. It really is taking me back to the early days of Immortal Music, back when I was mostly doing this just for fun and the love of music. Let me know your favorites and I will talk to you guys soon.
Do you ever get a song stuck in your head that just won't leave? We all get songs stuck in our heads, but typically, I think they get stuck, you listen to it once or twice, get busy with other things and then forget about it. I assume other people do this too, but I tend to get something stuck in my head every single day. In fact, I often wake up with something stuck in my head, but it usually dissipates within a couple hours of waking up. But sometimes, I'll listen to a song, get it stuck in my head, and then it embeds itself in my head and refuses to leave.
Like I can just be sitting there, minding my own business, doing something completely unrelated to the song or even music in general, and then all the sudden, I will just have part of a song screaming at me. Sometimes literally, I might add. So I'll go and listen to it, trying to get it out. That doesn't work. Then repeat this cycle for MONTHS. I can guarantee you this has happened my whole life, so therefor, there's definitely more songs than what I can name that have done this to me. But, there's 3 in particular that I can think of, that have lasted a very long time. And by very long time, I mean more than a couple days.
The three songs are, "Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time" by Panic! At The Disco, "Bow Down" by I Prevail, and the most recent one, "Sleeping In"by All Time Low. Weird mix, I know. Now "Bow Down" is the longest running one, as that song came out just over a year ago now and I'm pretty sure its popped into my head at least once every single day since then. That only got worse after I saw I Prevail live in August 2019, but I think everyone on the Facebook page knows that by now. More than one person has grown to realize that's pretty much my favorite song just because of how often I've shared it.
"Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time", was a random one. I had heard it a time or two, and had the whole Death of A Bachelor album on my iPod. And I was actually in line to meet Shane Dawson at a Books A Million, when a friend asked if I had that song, because it was stuck in his head. I said yeah, and gave him an earbud. We listened to it, maybe two times? It wasn't excessive, and then for some reason it was severely stuck in my head. When I mentioned this on the Facebook page, I said it was only about four months it was stuck in my head, but that's absolutely false. I started thinking about it after I said it, and I am positive it was still stuck in my head near the end of that year.
Still no idea why, either. Because as much as I like the song, its not meaningful, and its just random really. Have you seen that music video? If you haven't, highly recommend you do. It tells quite the story, you will be hooked on it just for the weirdness alone.
"Bow Down", was a rather different. At first, I just found it catchy, plus I was so excited to have new music from I Prevail. But then it grew to feel very personal for me. So now its a mix of both, and yes it definitely is one of my favorite songs. Fun fact, I would say that and "Scars" by Papa Roach are my favorite songs. If you want to hear more thoughts on that, click here. I wrote a whole thing about songs that had impacted me over the last decade and talked about that a bit.
Now as for "Sleeping In".....man, I don't even know what's up with that. Because frankly, out of all the songs All Time Low released prior to the release of their new album, Wake Up Sunshine, I initially said this was my least favorite. Just because its light hearted and fun, there's no meaning to it. But that being said, what I didn't talk about at all in my interview was this is one of the only songs on the album that has that truly classic All Time Low sound. This one felt like it easily could have been released right along Nothing Personal or Dirty Work, but its brand new.
I think its because its just catchy fun that it keeps getting stuck in my head. All I know is the song has only been out for one month, and its been stuck in my head for three weeks. Which is how long I've been in quarantine, I might add. I still love the song, but the fact that I just have the first half or so of the chorus just playing on repeat in my head is getting old. Like imagine, you're almost asleep in bed, all nice and comfy with the fan on, and then all the sudden you hear Alex Gaskgarth screaming, "IF I SAID I WANTED YOUR BODY, WOULD YOU HOLD IT AGAINST ME? SEVEN IN THE MORNING, WANNA LISTEN TO BRITTNEY", in your head. Like I get it, go listen to Britney Spears and lay in bed, I'm trying to sleep! I say that with a laugh, by the way. I'm not even actually annoyed with this, just am questioning why its so deeply in my mind for absolutely no reason.
I listened to it three times while writing this by the way, and its still stuck. We'll see if I still like the song by the time this quarantine crap is over, because if it stays at this rate, I'm going to over play it. That's not something I even experience often, but I could see it happening. Also side note, the singles for Wake Up Sunshine really brought my love of All Time Low back to the surface. I didn't like their last album, Last Young Renegade very much, so while I still enjoyed everything but that, and still listened once in a while, I didn't find myself loving them nearly to the extent I used to. Ever since, "Some Kind Of Disaster" came out, that love has come back. Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but I'm not complaining.
Also, I know this was totally pointless and random, but I felt like writing, so I went with it. Its a way to interact, stave off my own boredom, and pass the time. So, with that being said, expect more random, thought dumps out of me because I very well might do it. And while we're at it, please feel free to tell me any songs that are stuck in your head right now. You can do so in the comments here or over on the Facebook page on the link to this post, or in a private message. I'm always here to talk if anyone wants to.
I'll probably be back shortly, as I have a couple more ideas of random posts I wish to make, and still plan on doing a ton of reviews.
Blogs of various topics go here, and all are written by Immortal Music's creator. You never know what you may find here, so have a look around.
