I spend basically all of my free time on the internet, and if I'm watching something, chances are its on YouTube. Perhaps you are the exact same way. If you are, you probably have heard a lot of people talking about some conversational things with Sam Pepper.
If you don't know what I'm talking about at all, let me explain. Sam Pepper is a British YouTuber who has lived in Los Angeles, California for a while. He has made a lot of prank videos in the past, and some were harmless, but in the past few months they appear to get more and more dangerous. There has been staged muggings, and all sorts of things. All are pretty messed up, but in this last one, he was going around with a fake arm, pinching women's butts just to see what they would do. Outraged, the internet blew up. This includes fellow YouTubers, much like Sam, speaking up against what he did. Some are even trying to get him removed from YouTube. His video, and follow up video where he did the same thing to men, have both been removed from YouTube and his account was suspended for a short while. A girl came out stating that she had no idea who he was at the time, but he came into her work, and was interested in her. She said she would not hang out with him, but ultimately did upon hearing who he was from all her friends who thought she was crazy for turning him down. Apparently she should have listened to her gut, and its a shame that she didn't. His invitation ended up in rape in the middle of the night, and another YouTuber spoke up saying he actually asked her out (as a minor, by the way) and tried to put some moves on her. She stopped him though, and he ultimately ended up blaming her for "leading him on", as if she lead him to believe he was going to get laid. All she did was agree to a date at the movies. She was sixteen, he was twenty three. Why would you even assume such a thing out of someone seven years younger than you? I have been a subscriber of Sam Pepper for a while now, but I have never been big on his videos. If I'm perfectly honest, I originally subscribed because I saw a video of him talking about his tattoos and the vibe I got off of him was all good things. And then I kept watching his videos, and decided over all, there was something just not quite right about him. I just couldn't quite place what that 'not right' thing about him was. His prank videos were something I never liked, and I do think maybe they were part of the reason why I thought something was off about him, because most of them were harassment in some way. They weren't 'pranks', where you simply confused the public with some crazy antics. I have never understood why someone would find videos where he's fake jumping people, and handcuffing strangers to him until he kissed him to be funny. Its kind of that gut feeling in my stomach that he wasn't a 'good person' why I'm sadly, not surprised that this is all coming out. What actually sort of makes me sick is that he's not even trying to own up to his mistakes, but rather creating more questionable content to back it up. He's claiming the video, and the one following it was a social experiment, and suddenly he's an activist against sexual harassment or something. That's actually why that girl spoke up finally, because its just too messed up that he's claiming that, when she, and only she, knew the truth. He has his supporters, and I admit, I have my people I would try to defend too, but this is just not okay. I'm not writing this to call out Sam Pepper, though I guess by saying all of this, I am doing just that. I am actually writing it because this is just another reminder that you cannot believe everything you see on the internet. Its also a reminder that really bad things do happen sometimes, and as depressing of a reminder as that is, its kind of a necessary one. You can protect yourself and your friends from it though. Don't go meet up with someone you don't know by yourself, and try to meet in public. I also wanted to write this whole thing up, because it really just got me thinking, and I think everyone should know by now that if I get to thinking on something, chances are there will be something about it online. Stay safe, guys.

I just posted a review of the North American deluxe edition for the 5 Seconds Of Summer self titled album and decided I wasn't quite done talking about it. (In other words, its time for me to ramble on about a band. Read at your own risk, it might not all make sense, and will probably go in various directions.)
While I do not believe in a 'guilty pleasure', I'd almost call these guys a 'guilty pleasure' for me. Not because I feel guilty for listening to them, but because I know they're not exactly the most loved band out there. Well, actually, they sort of are, but the fact that they have been on tour with One Direction, I think made a lot of people automatically dislike them. Which is highly unfair to 5SOS, but I won't get into that. Actually, I sort of will, just I will over look the unfair aspect. I really do not understand why they are on tour with One Direction, or why this is not the first tour they have done with them. I have nothing with 1D, in fact, I actually like a handful of their songs and from what I've seen in interviews, I quite like them as people. I just don't really understand how that pairing came to be. The sounds are completely different, and it simply just does not add up to me. I started to say I don't even know who inspired 1D to come into existence, but then I remembered that Tom Fletcher from McFly has written some of their music. Maybe that plays a factor in the pairing? They're a pop band, hands down, but 5SOS is pop punk. Or pop rock, really. Whatever you want to call All Time Low is what you'd call 5SOS, I'd say. Here's what I think is funny with them. I had heard their name but actually didn't even know they were a band for a while. I saw everywhere online but nobody said "I like 5SOS' music." or "I like this song by 5SOS." or anything that really hinted at them being a band. I actually thought it was a book or something for a couple months! I got curious one day and Googled it, but admittedly did no research. I saw they were a group, and on tour with One Direction and frankly, just assumed they were another boy band like 1D and wrote them off. It wasn't until I was watching TV one day and the "She's So Perfect" video came on. I decided to actually watch it, and before the song even really started, I was looking at them and automatically thought, "They remind me of All Time Low." If anyone knows me, they know that's a big selling point. All Time Low is one of my favorites, and anyone related to them tends to get my attention at least a little bit. Then the song started and I found myself nodding along and thinking, "They even sound a bit like ATL..I like this." I went on Facebook and went to their Facebook page and was very pleased to see that their two biggest influences are All Time Low and Mayday Parade. It actually makes me happy to see a band inspired by those two doing so well. I also think its quite cool seeing how All Time Low has reacted to them. They have met, in fact, it almost appears as though the boys in All Time Low have adopted 5SOS. Its great exposure for both bands, and probably a lot of fun for them. However, and I say this as a very big All Time Low fan, remember -when I first saw that the two band were hanging out, my first thought was, "Shit. Jack is going to corrupt those boys so fast." This is actually the first band (I think) that I've ever liked where every single member of the band was younger than me. I think its great that they are finding such success so young, but I do think Jack Barakat is not the best influence for a couple of eighteen year olds. Again, I say that as a very big All Time Low fan, so I do not mean it in a bad way. Jack is just crazy, and we all know what he gets into. Its fun though, so maybe good for them for getting involved? I don't know. I think I'm just trying to justify what I said, ignore me if you'd like. Anyways, my point is I really like 5 Seconds Of Summer, and do recommend people check them out. Also, I really do not understand why they are on tour with 1D. The planned four for next year with All Time Low makes more sense to me. What are your thoughts on them? I'm going to shut up now. I had a bit on my mind and felt the need to elaborate. Check out the review, if you want by clicking here. My brain somehow went on a tangent, and this is a normal occurrence but this time was a bit different. I somehow started quoting lyrics that I felt would be helpful in people's lives, and ended up with a full paragraph of song lyrics. This was just going to be a quick Facebook status, but I just kept going!
So, it made it to the blog. Hopefully you enjoy this, and maybe it'll even help you out. Maybe you'll recognize the lyrics too! If not, that's okay, I included them all at the end of the post. Check this out...there's no rhyme or reason to this, its just however it happened to work out in my head. The lyrics do not need to go together, but some of them actually do. Go for it, run toward it, dive in head first, live life with no regrets. Put your heart out there, you might be scared, you might get hurt. But it'll all work out in the end. Don't let anyone tell you that you're not strong enough. Don't give up. There's nothing wrong with just being yourself, that's more than enough. If you take it from me, live your life for yourself, 'cause when its all said and done -you don't need anyone else, come on. Darling, you'll be okay. Keep your hopes up high and your head down low. Lift up your eyes, discouraged one. When you feel like giving up, when they say it can't be done, its up to you to show them why they're wrong. Its funny how some distance makes everything seem small. And the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all. Its time to see what I can do, to test the limits and break through. No right, no wrong, no rules for me. I'm free! There's no going back. The past is in the past, thank God it doesn't last forever. Why give up? Why give in? There's not enough, there never is. So I will go on until the end. Never give in, never back down. Its never too late to stop being afraid. its never too late to live your life, the time is now, its do or die. Its not too late -its never too late. Let go of your yesterday. Let it go. Did you recognize any of the lyrics? I bet you did! There's a ten more I could have used, but these are what came to mind quickly. Some of them might be a bit unexpected to, admittedly, but they all have meaning! In this order, I quoted all of the following;
I honestly could keep going and make up more of these, and frankly, they're fun to come up with! Its kind of supposed to be a letter to those who need it, but at the same time, its just a random post that's supposed to be filled with inspirational, motivational song quotes. I might come up with more combinations like this one of these days, because its kind of cool to see how totally unrelated songs can work together so well. Am I the only one who thinks that's cool? I doubt it. On the evening of September 20, Adelitas Way came to my home town. This was a special event, in honor of a local DJ staying on the newest radio station for one year. Another reason why this event was special was because it was the thirty first birthday of Adelitas Way's singer, Rick DeJesus. So, just before starting to play one of his favorite songs that he has ever written ("Alive"), happy birthday was played and the crowd wished him a happy birthday.
The show was opened up by a local band called Before The Fire, and another local band, Dolt, followed their set. Both bands did wonderfully, though one thing that threw me off a bit was both of the opening acts were heavier than Adelitas Way. Complimentary, yes, but they were much heavier in sound than Adelitas Way ever is. Dolt actually has not been together in seven years, and have only recently re-banded. I actually saw part of the band do an acoustic show back in April, but this was them as they normally are. Heavy, angry, metal music. (Please note that Immortal Music sucks at naming genres, so take all genre claims with a grain of salt.) Before The Fire is a hard rock band, that is pretty well loved around here. I had never actually caught one of their performances before this one, but was very impressed. They all had the stage presence of a fully established band, which is not something you see commonly in local bands. There's plenty of great ones, but the stage prescence isn't normally on the exact same level as well known bands. Its generally very close, but rarely the same. All the bands did great, but unfortunately some technical difficulties drowned out their talent some. Everyone tried to fix it, but unfortunately, nothing worked out well. Such things happen sometimes, but this was pretty bad. You know its bad when people are wiping tears off their faces from ear piercingly high pitched guitar riffs. You want to hear and fear the music, you don't want it to threaten to pop your ear drums. I can't fully speak for other people, but I was on the barricade, about three feet to the right of the speaker, and was barely able to hear anyone's vocals. As I said earlier, the bands did great, but everything was drowned out a bit. This blog took so long to write because I didn't know what to say, I had a good time with friends and everything, but the sound was simply not good enough to truly deam it a 'great show.' Thank you, Before The Fire, Dolt and Adelitas Way for coming out and doing the show regardless of the difficulties. It was still fun! Some of you may have noticed, and some of you may have not, but there have been some changes made to Immortal Music! Its nothing overly major, the content will still be the same, and the layout hasn't changed. Maybe I didn't change that much after all, but I still feel like bringing light to what I did change.
The 'header' image for the entire website has now changed. It previously featured the site's tagline, and a photograph of Michael Vampire, Chris Motionless and Andrew W.K, to go along with the whole 'immortal'/ 'vampire' theme. That header was at the top of the website since September 2012, and frankly a change was needed. Now, its a lot more simple, and really focuses of the website's tagline, "Music is my Religion, Rockstars are my Gods, and Concerts are my Church." I mostly changed it because I was bored of the original, but I also didn't quite like the fact htat it was verly obviously just something I threw together in Photoshop using pictures I found on Google. That is still sort of the case, I freely admit that, BUT since the main focus is the tagline that I came up with all on my own, I feel less weird about it. What do you guys think? Other changes I made were to the 'About The Creator' page, and the home page. On the home page, is now a section for fan signs made by you guys! I asked people to make some for the cover picture of the Facebook page in celebration of the page turning four, and decided to include them on the website. One of the girls that submitted some work for me, saw that I threw her art on my website and was tickled to see it. If you'd like to be featured in that section, please feel free to send me something on Facebook! I'd truly love to see it, and display it here on Immortal Music. You don't have to though, I just wanted to throw it out there that I would enjoy it and it will get displayed here. As well as on Facebook, actually. In other words, I'll display it all over Immortal Music and appreciate your art forever! The About The Creator page still exists, but its now a bit hidden. In its place, is now an about Immortal Music page. Its called the 'Information Lair' for right now, but I might change that if I think of something better. "About Immortal Music" was too far long for the tab. So, I had to change it, and couldn't think of much, so I went with that. I felt like it kind of fit the whole 'theme' of the website. At the same time though, I don't know how I feel about it, so that might change one of these days. I just felt like the information on the home page wasn't enough. I wanted to elaborate on it, and frankly, I really like how it turned out. Which actually surprises me because I wrote most of it at five am after only getting three hours of sleep. Then you may be wondering -where's the 'About the creator' page? Actually, you probably didn't wonder, you probably didn't even mind that it was gone as its not a big deal. It is actually now linked on the "Information Lair" page. Its at the bottom of the page, in smaller print so you have to keep your eyes peeled for htat. I honestly considered just removing the page all together because this website is not about me at all. However, I kind of like that I do offer some information about myself as a person on the website. Most music journalism publications don't give you any insight to who's putting up the content. That does work for the most part, but with the interaction I try to have between the Facebook page and YouTube, I didn't feel right having no information about myself on the website. So, I actually completely re-wrote the page, and included a lot more music related facts about myself. Such as how I got into music and then interviewing, some of my favorite songs, and song quotes. I also mentioned Remedy X (the band I manage) and linked their Facebook page. So, hopefully you guys like all the changes! I had planned on also putting up a bunch of content, but did not get the chance to write it all, so the content is coming at the same rate of "Whenever I find the time." I tend to think about posting something constantly, just unfortunately, the time is not even there sometimes. Please let me know what you think! Thank you for your support and here's to many more years of Immortal Music! Its probably a given that I spend a lot of time on the internet. Whether I'm writing something, posting on Facebook or just scrolling through Pintrest while watching YouTube videos, I am almost always online.
With that, comes a lot of the internet slang, and while I am part of a generation growing up with the Internet handy at all times, I simply do not get the internet slang. No, let me re-phrase that. I get it, in the sense that I understand it (most of it), but I don't like it. Nor do I understand why its needed at all. Like, honestly just spell the word! Its not even just words that are changed, its things that are said on the internet just because they're on the internet! I have a few examples of the things that honestly just irritate me. (Does anyone even give a shit here? No, probably not. But someone might relate. Perhaps that's something that bothers others on the internet. People always feeling the need to tell all. I don't have an issue with that, clearly.) I don't actually even know where to start. Let me first say that I can tell its all clearly digressed into this because I remember just learning about "chatspeak" when I was ten or eleven. By chatspeak, I mean things like, "G2G", "LOL", "BRB", ect. Those things don't bother me, especially not 'lol". It has lost its meaning at this point, its kind of just something you add to your sentence to lighten the mood or something. Its almost a puncuation mark at this point in time. Am I the only one that thinks that? I feel like that's quite possible, actually. But today, people are over the top with everything. There's certain people, typically named 'fangirls' of anything, that will appear to be "Screaming", "crying" and "dying" over just a picture. I know for a fact that a picture of Jack Barakat did not make you scream, cry and keel over because if that were the case, you wouldn't have been able to post that. Not to mention, you would have severely annoyed anyone around you if you screamed and cried over a picture. It just seems over the top to me, and yes, it does get on my nerves sometimes. It even goes further sometimes, when they're really excited and they won't just say 'I'm crying." over something overly cute or funny. They'll do it in all caps, and misspelled. Here's an example: "OMG M Y B A B Y. I'M CYIRNG. I'M SRCEAMNIG." Like dude, calm down. If you're really that excited over something that you can't spell words you learned in your early school days -stop trying to type and take a deep breath. Because, if you're that excited, I'd imagine your heart is racing a mile a second, and you might give yourself a heart attack. Relax. Obviously, I am exaggerating some over what's going on behind the computer screen. This is just what comes to my mind when I see stuff like that. Chances are they just go, "Aw how cute." or chuckle at something, post it with that caption and then move on without ever changing their facial expression. I just always paint a full scenario in my head when I see it. Then there's words that the internet has fully just made up for the hell of it. The one that actually started this entire rant, is actually a censored version of 'bitch'. People have taken to saying things like 'bish please.' And frankly, it irritates me. All of this irritates me, obviously, but that is two things in one that are bugging me right now. First off, its censorship. If you're going to call someone a bitch -just say it. Unless you're far too young to be cussing, in which case, don't say it or anything that's meant to be it. But seeing that one made me think of a bunch of others that the internet have made up and people have totally ran with. Some of these are not 'words', just some random phrases. I've compilled a short list for you. Bae- Originally thought to be a ghetto way to say, "babe", actually means 'before anyone else.' While this is actually kind of sweet in meaning, it sounds stupid. Its kind of like "YOLO" if you ask me, it has a good meaning, but people use it all wrong. Except, people do tend to use 'bae' in conjunction to someone else that they really care about, the way its presented in a sentence tends to irritate me. Why? Because I hear the grammar of it. Ever since I learned that it means "before anyone else", that's how I read it! If someone says, "This is my bae." I read it as "This is my before anyone else." Which is just an awful sentence! Now if someone says, "This person is bae." It sounds kind of dumb when you say it in a sentence, but when you think of the meaning, its actually grammatically correct. "This person is before anyone else." That makes sense to me. Yes, I know, I over think it all. I really like words, okay? And when people make up new ones that just sound dumb to me, I tend to think about how much I don't like it every time I see it. Again, yes I know. its stupid. Let's move on now. h12- A friend of mine claims she made this one up, but I've seen more than just her use it before. I've been told it means "more than hate." It kind of comes from years ago when people started saying things like, "gr8" or 'h8', and just somehow spiraled. When I first heard it even, I just honestly went, "What? Why? Just say you really hate something..." There's a ton more I could use as an example, but frankly, I think you've read enough and I've probably made my point. I love the internet -not its slang. So what do you guys think? Do you use internet slang at all, or do you try to avoid most of it at all costs? Honestly, I use old school internet slang in casual conversations from time to time, but for the most part, I just say everything normally. Maybe that's the writer in me, I'm not sure. Hopefully this blog either amused you, or at least did not annoy you. Thanks for reading and I'll be back soon with a whole bunch of things here on Immortal Music. Before you begin reading, know that this is NOT a proper review at all. It is sort of a review, but its more of a first impression coming from a die hard fan. Only it is edited some, because something tells me that nobody wants to really hear the first thoughts that came to my mind. Some might call me a fangirl, and if that's the case -so be it. This is a 'review' of Nick Jonas' new single, "Jealous." I had to listen to the song twice to fully decide what I think of the song, and frankly, I still don't know. The inner Nick Jonas fangirl in me just wants to shrug and go, "Eh, I love it because Nick did it." But that's not a far way to decide if you actually like a song or not. I do have to say that I don't totally love the sound. It sounds far too similar to Justin Bieber's sound for my taste. That's fine for others, and I don't mean any disrespect to Bieber fans, but that's not my cup of tea. That being said, I love the vocals, because I have adored Nick's voice since I was a pre-teen girl. I also love the lyrics, because while its not exactly attractive to be jealous, we all do get jealous. Not to mention, some of it just reminds me so much of the mental image I got from "Chains." Something tells me, 'Mr. President' is into some sexual things, if you know what I mean. Not going to lie, I actually bust out laughing when he said the line, "You know I get excited when you get jealous too." It just surprised me a bit, and really amused me. It also made me think of the lyric in, "Chains", that said "Baby, tell me why I want you to do me wrong." Am I the only one that really thinks those lyrics go together in a very, very sexual way? I don't have a rating for the song. If you really want a rating done in numbers, I think I honestly do want to give it four stars. Its not exactly meaningful like Nick Jonas' lyrics have always been, but I do enjoy it. It paints a picture of Nick that I quite like, and it has made me quite curious for his future album. Much like a lot of his music throughout the years though, its not for everyone. Feel free to listen to it for yourself though and decide what you think. I for one, will be here waiting to hear more from Sir Nicholas Jonas. Are you guys sick of me talking about Uproar yet? If so, well, then hang tight and try not to get too annoyed because there's still more where that's come from. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up for the content schedule, because all of it does involve Uproar.
A lot of this will be YouTube bound, but it'll all be shared on the Facebook page, and some will be shared here. First, I'll explain what is already up from the time this blog was written. So far, there are two interviews up, Escape The Fate and Within Reason. Sons Of Reverly is being uploaded as this post is being written. It will be linked right here once it is fully uploaded and ready to go. There's also a bunch of pictures over on Facebook, if you are interested. Sadly, there is not a ton of pictures, because I did not have a photo pass, but did have a lot to do, so frankly, I didn't get the chance to take many good pictures this year. Most of the pictures are of Escape The Fate because they are unfortunately the only small stage band that I was fully able to watch without any interupptions. The only others that I watched fully were Pop Evil and Seether, and I was too far away then to get any good pictures, I'm afraid. Now for the stuff that is not out yet. Normally, I upload videos on YouTube every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. This week, there is going to be a video every single day! Regular scheduling will come back next week (mostly.), but some of it will still involve Uproar. I told you guys before I went that once I got done with all the content involving this festival, that you'd be so sick of it. So, here is the schedule for all the content. You can feel free to totally ignore it all, if you wish. Its not mandatory for you to watch any of it. Frankly, most people don't watch the YouTube channel anyways and for the most part, its just there for my own entertainment. I like filming videos, and its a great place to put up content from concerts and such. I don't need to explain that. Let's get into this schedule. This blog was posted on September 2, so I started the schedule here on September 3. Wednesday -September 3- Part one of the vlog from Uproar. (This is mostly the trip to the venue, because myself and my best friend were having fun filming in the car.) Thursday- September 4- Trenches -Pop Evil (Live from Uproar.) Friday -September 5- Words As Weapons -Seether (Live from Uproar) Saturday- September 6- Part two of the vlog. (The Uproar experience. I actually did a half decent job of vlogging in public!) Sunday - September 7- Uproar Recap video Monday- September 8- Remedy -Seether (Live from Uproar) Tuesday- September 9- Uproar 'haul' (because I feel like sharing what I got at the show with you guys. Because, frankly, without your support, I highly doubt I would have gotten to do any of that. I may have gotten to go, but that would have been it.) As I just said, the normal schedule will be back soon, and non-Uproar themed videos will return on Thursday September 11. If you're curious about what those are, well, you'll just have to stay tuned to find out because I am not telling you. (That might have something to do with the fact that I don't know what I am going to upload yet.) So, that's what's up! Hopefully you guys enjoy all the content involving Uproar, because frankly, I am enjoying sharing it all. Also, just want to throw this out there -I'm not bragging with all this. I'm aware it might look like I am, but as stated earlier, I feel the need to share all I can with you guys because I only get to do all these things because I have your support. I can't bring everyone with me, but this is the next best thing. |
