Someone asked a group of people, both adults and children, just one question. If you could change just one thing about your body, what would you change? Some people gave answers such as they'd like to be taller, or have better skin, which is to be expected. Surely almost everyone out there has an answer to this question as well. I for one, almost instantly thought "I'd like to be taller, and not look so 'innocent', because being a fully legal adult who's constantly mistaken for a middle school student gets kind of degrading from time to time." The kids they asked though, didn't give answers that were putting themselves down. They gave imaginative answers such as mermaid tails, shark mouths and telepathic powers, or simply said they didn't know because they didn't want to change anything. What's just sad is how we all go from that to how we are now. Sometimes, its other people's comments, and sometimes its simply because we compare ourselves to others. When did everyone suddenly learn to be so quick to judge and why can't we all just agree it'd be amazing to have telepathic powers? While, yeah, this has gotten me thinking, that doesn't change that I want to straighten my curly, frizzy hair that's currently on my head as I type this. And that doesn't mean I don't still want to look my age so I can stop hearing, "Oh my god, I thought you were 12!" on a daily basis. But it did get me thinking about how things change. Its kind of a shame, and maybe if everyone could stop being so judgemental, we all could just be comfortable with what we've got. I could go so much further on this topic, but I'll just leave it at that. Think before you speak, you never know what you might be pointing out to someone.

I am going to do a proper review of Nick Jonas' new solo album, but with every song release, I have said something about it. I found most of the album through Rolling Stone, though I couldn't find two tracks. One of them is the one I am most curious about, "I want you."
I will wait until the album's out to do a proper review, because I want to include the other two tracks, but I couldn't resist saying something now. I'm not sure what to think of this album. I have been a die hard Jonas Brothers fan since I was thriteen, and Nick was always my favorite. Let's be honest, we all have had a favorite band member. I can't deny it, I was a Jonas Brothers fanatic, and had such a crush on Nick Jonas. I hate to admit it, but I do think on some level, that'll never go away fully. It happens, even the most professional of people have their weakness' and mine happens to be him. Because of that, I'm going to support this album no matter what. That doesn't mean I'm going to nessicarily really enjoy the album though. From what I've heard though, I'm not all that impressed. Something I've always liked about his lyrics were they were catchy and mostly meaningful. I mean, "When You Look Me In The Eyes" was something Nick co-wrote with his father when he was just eleven years old and that is still to this day my favorite love song. "Hold on" has more power and meaning to it than I noticed back when it was new, and honestly could change lives. That's why so far, this album is surprising me. Its also kind of disappointing. Its mostly sexual, with very little meaning. I mean, don't get me wrong, the inner Nick Jonas fangirl is silently drooling over the images he puts in your head of him naked and such. The twenty-one year old, music journalist that is at the surface though, keeps going, "Really? This is what you chose to release?" In interviews, he has said this album is the "real him", but unless all you think about is sex, how can that be true? I mean...given he's a twenty two year old boy, so that might actually be the only thing on his mind, but even the horinest of people think of something other than sex. Not to mention, I'm quite curious how he went from inspirations such as Elvis Costello and Fall Out Boy, to making an R & B album. I've never been a fan of R&B, if I'm honest. I've never really hated it, but its never drawn my attention. At the same time, if there is honesty in the interviews he's given, then good for him for releasing something that even his die hard fans can question. If you can make music from the time you and many of your fans are pre-pubscent into adulthood with only a few years for gaps inbetween, and still surprise your fans, you probably are doing something right. The album isn't all sexual, "Push" appears to be about a relationship coming to an end when you don't want it to. Or at least, not the way it is. I'm of two minds about the song, but I do have to say its meaningful. So is "Avalanche", which features Demi Lovato. Its quite beautiful and I bet anything Demi had a hand in writing this. Many know about her struggles in the past few years, and how she's not only over come it, but used her experience to reach out to others. Has Nick been through something too or was this more Demi's song but on his album? Many questions are being posed now. This is beautiful and I really do like this one a lot. Like I said, I'm not overly thrilled with the album and this is not a proper album review. That'll come Tuesday or somewhere around Tuesday because that's when the album is released. Its a decent album, and I think those who really like R&B might actually really like it. I just don't love that style. I don't hate it, because frankly, unless he full on started rapping or turned into a total douchebag, I don't think I could hate something he released. My favorite tracks so far are "Chains" and "Avalanche", but who knows what I'll think once I hear "Warning" and "I Want You." I hate to say this ,but Nick's new album is not gonna make it into my list of favorite albums. Now the self titled Jonas Brothers album -that's forever stuck in that list. Also, does it weird anyone else out that that album came out in 2007? 2007 seems so far away now... Anyways, the album comes out November 10, and I will be doing a proper review thenm, so stay tuned for that. This was all slightly jumbled thoughts as they came to my mind when I couldn't resist listening to it any longer. I saw the dumbest news story this morning. I went to check my email for Immortal Music, and on the Yahoo homepage was a headline, questioning Harry Styles sexuality. No, this wasn't a dumb headline because it involved a member of One Direction, but rather it was because they were making rather large claims all over what is actually a small answer during an interview regarding his own sexuality.
Apparently, there's been claims of him being bisexual, because of something said during an interview. He and Liam Payne were asked about valuable traits in a girl, in their eyes. Liam spoke up by saying, "Female. That's an important trait." Harry apparently said that wasn't all that important, and went on to say he'd rather have someone with a sense of humor. It'd be understandable why fans who might 'ship' Harry with certain other people to get all excitable over this, but journalists writing articles? No. This particular Yahoo! article went on to explain why they were now questioning Harry. It wasn't because he made that comment, and will on occasion basically molest his friends whilst on stage. It was actually because while he claims to be straight, he is a big supporter of the LGBTQ community. Did they really just try to imply that someone can't be supportive unless they too feel the same way? They're full of shit, if that's the case! That'd be like saying its stupid for a human to be an activist for animals or plants because you're a human, not a plant or animal. You can support anything you'd like. If you feel strongly about something, especially human rights, then go for it. Feel free to vocalize your opinions -stand up and scream while the rest of the world won't make a sound. The title of this blog might scare you and because of that let me first give a quick disclaimer. That is not asking about stopping everything. I've said this far too many times now, so it should be obvious but it probably isn't, so I must say it again. I'm too fucking stubborn to ever fully quit doing Immortal Music related things. I simply cannot even do it.
What I actually mean is should I stop trying to do the Immortal Music awards? I have asked six questions now and I feel like its been like pulling teeth to get answers. And its not even working! The whole point of asking the questions is to get a winner in the end -that isn't happening! I have barely gotten any answers for any questions, even though I have asked been asking the questions multiple times a day between Facebook, Twitter and here, I am getting hardly answers. Either its not being shown to people, or I'm just being ignored. Both are clearly happening and frankly its discouraging. If nobody even cares why keep busting my ass to get answers? I could just save all the time and effort and at the end of the year post my favorites at the end of the year. But that's the thing, I don't want to do that. Yes, I will do that at the end of the year, but I also want to see what others have to say. This website isn't about me, or you. Its about the music, and musicians, and sometimes input from other music fans is needed. So, seriously...if I can't get that, why keep trying? Maybe there just shouldn't be a 2014 Immortal Music Awards. Maybe there never should be. Maybe I'm the only one who gives a fuck. I know I'm one of the only ones who gives a fuck about Immortal Music and there's plenty of days I just want to stop trying with all of it but guess what? I can't do that. So, either participate or tell me to fucking stop because I don't know what to do right now and its more frustrating than anything. I have so many ideas for Immortal Music and to most its just a stupid little website run by some "kid" (who isn't even a child by any means.) but to me its so much more. Then I see the reality of it and realize its really not that much yet. Yet is the key word because I'm too stubborn to quit. I just want to know if I'm wasting my time right now with this project. I just want some feedback -why is that so hard to get? We are now onto the sixth question for the 2014 Immortal Music Awards and so far, its all been proving to be highly interesting. Its incredibly difficult to get anyone to give answers for some reason, and very few have given the same answers as someone else. So, its been hard to determine definite winners for each category. It appears as though there's going to be multiple winners per category, unless someone has some suggestions on how we can determine one set winner. Some ideas are being worked on right now, so there might be some information on that soon.
Meanwhile, if you'd like to participate, please feel encouraged to answer the question below as well as the ones previously asked. The first four questions were asked two weeks ago, and can be found here, and the fifth was asked last week and can be found right here. Every answer helps, and there is no wrong answer here. Everyone is included, if they choose to participate. This week's question is: Who do you think is the best guitarist of 2014? This could be any guitarist that you think deserves some credit for this year. Whether they're a favorite of yours, or have done something special this year, they can be accepted. That is -as long as they have had the guitarist role in a band this year. If you'd like to explain why your answer is what it is, that'd be even better! Its always nice to hear the reasonings behind why answers are given. Please be sure to answer this question -don't just read this and not answer! Answers are needed in order to make the Immortal Music Awards work right! Its been mentioned before, but this is the 3rd annual and if you'd like to see the final results from previous years, you can! All are on the website, from 2011, 2012, and 2013. (2011 didn't work out well, but its expanded a lot since then and has gotten a lot better.) I want this to work. I want the Immortal Music Awards to be something that happens every year that Immortal Music exists. I want it to one day be so much more than just questions asked all over the internet. So, go ahead answer the questions I ask. I'm asking different ones every Monday now through the end of December. If you want to help, by getting others to answer as well -please do! I really would appreciate the help. |
