2020 seems to the year of bands being oddly cryptic for absolutely no reason when it comes to their announcements. My Chemical Romance has been doing it for months, and then randomly made their comeback. We're still waiting them to announce that North American tour that they're obviously sitting on. Rammstein seems to be doing the exact same thing, and now All Time Low has been doing it as well. They've been posting short videos on their YouTube for the past week, and have recently changed all their social media profile pictures to solid black. We get it, you're edgy and you want our attention. Lucky for you and us as well I assume, we're listening. Today they have released a brand new song called, "Some Kind Of Disaster" with the foot note of; "The Young Renegades are no more.... Reintroducting your favorite disaster, All Time Low. We took a step away for a minute -did some growing, did some soul searching, some healing...Now we're back and ready to be all yours again, our battle scares worn proudly, and our hair looking much than ever. (Its best if you just agree.) We've missed you all so much, and we're so excited for what comes next. Feels like we've been keeping secrets from you for far too long....Been hard to keep our mouths shut, honestly. Its a song and dance we've done a thousand times before, but this one feels extra-good. Besides, its never the same dance twice. Hope you dig this new song as much as we do...After all, its all for you." Check out the song down below, and stay tuned because they've clearly got big things coming our way. Also head on over to the creator's blog, where we break down the music video and share our thoughts on the brand new song.

The Word Alive is planning on releasing their sixth album, Monomania on February 21, and have a lot going for them right now. For starters, they have released the title track with a music video, which is what I'm going to be talking about today. Before we get into that though, I also wanted to mention that they're going on tour with Falling In Reverse and Escape The Fate very soon, and we will actually be going to it! We're going to the February 12 date, in Fort Lauderdale, FL but the tour actually begins February 8 and goes through March 4. If you want tickets, head on over to Falling In Reverse's website. I imagine tickets are going to sell out, as the prices seem to vary quite a bit from venue to venue. Now, let's get into "Monomania." I've never actually been the biggest fan of The Word Alive and they've had a handful of lineup changes over the years. This video reminds me heavily of Twenty One Pilots, but the song definitely doesn't. I do think it'll take a few listens before I fully like it, but I don't dislike it now. Lyrically I quite like what I'm catching, which is not every lyric. But it does pose a question I think all of us have thought of at some point. "Will I ever be good enough for me?" I listened to it a couple times while putting together this article, and I definitely see it growing on me. The name might give away what the song is about, but its the internal struggle. The constant inner monologue that comes with dealing with life. Maybe its because I've never kept up with The Word Alive much, but I don't exactly know how I feel about this. Ironically as I was watching the music video and writing this, I was chatting with a friend about them and she had not heard this song yet and asked if Tyler Smith screams in this one. She also expressed that he's really good at it, and ironically, I had just gotten to that part of the song and was a bit uncertain of how I felt about his vocal style. Considering I didn't immediately turn it off though, I'm calling it a win. I'll probably look into The Word Alive more, as I don't think I've heard most of their discography actually. Just songs here and there. Stay tuned, maybe I'll do some reviews, I think I've only done reviews for their very early work that features Craig Mabbitt. Once again this is the title track for Monomania that's coming out February 21, and if anyone is interested there will be twelve songs on the album, and the track listing is as follows. 1. Monomania 2. No Way Out 3. Searching For Glory 4. Another Year In The Shadows 5. Greatest Almost 6. Thank you 7. Numb Love (Misery II) 8. K.F 9. Burning Your World Down 10. Comfort & Change 11. I'm sorry You're Sorry Now 12. Death Is The Only End If You Assume The Story Is About You I admit, after looking at the titles for the tracks and hearing what Tyler had to say regarding the new album, I'm much more interested. "When you listen to our new music, I hope you have a better understanding of our entire career. Maybe you can see the whole story and realize that we're not that different from you. We've been through it all, but we're trying to learn, grow, and leave something behind we feel will help people. This is our purest work. This is everything we've been through the last couple of years. It's the best conclusion to the last 10 years and the best opening to the next 10." I can completely get behind that. We'll have to see what happens next. Please watch the video for "Monomania" and share your thoughts with me below. While you're at it, if you're already a fan of The Word Alive, leave song suggestions for me, as I definitely plan on giving them more of a shot very soon. |
