Rumors have sparked up that Tom Delong, the front man for the iconic band Blink 182, has indefinitely quit the band. For the most part, these rumors do appear to be truthful. Mark Hoppus shared a link to an interview he did with Rolling Stone where he explained all the details. He claims that Tom only said he did not leave the band because he was upset that Mark and Travis were finally honest about it all.
Tom, however is claiming that he never quit the band and actually was on the phone about a Blink 182 event in New York City when all the press releases started coming in about his departure from the band. This was on his Instagram account, if anyone is wishing to see it. So, who's to believe here? Other than to deny it through one Tweet, it appears as though Tom has not really said much. Mark, however has said quite a bit. It sounds as though they signed a contract right around Christmas last year, and were supposed to begin recording in early January. Tom, however, was MIA and the rest of the band were mostly informed of this over email through producers and such. And you guys call him a friend? A friend would tell you flat out what was going on, not make their "people" do it for them. Something seems rather fishy here. They also claimed that they got an email flat out saying "Tom.is.out" at the end of 2014 and had received the exact same email back in 2004, when he took his first indefinite hiatus. What we don't understand is why you wouldn't just be honest? 20 years is a long time to be in a band, and sometimes, you find something that works better for you. He has Angels And Airwaves, and maybe he feels like working on that more. Doesn't he know its okay to admit that? More importantly, you'd think he'd feel like he owed it to his friends, let alone his fans to tell the truth about the whole situation. "It's hard to cover for someone who's disrespectful and ungrateful...To say, 'I didn't quit the band' is just not true. It's disingenuous." -Mark Hoppus. The entire situation is highly confusing, and frankly, considering how much Mark and Travis said, verse the little defense Tom offered, its sort of hard not to believe them. All the known details can be found here, and hopefully Tom will give his side soon in full. A comment on Tom's Instagram post actually made a valid point that needs to be kept in mind by anyone who might be upset over this occurrence. Tom is not Blink 182. Tom is one person -he is Tom Delonge. Blink 182 has primarily been three men since they started, and there's always more to a band than just the front man. Mark and Travis are going to continue on and move forward. Whether you choose to support them or not, is entirely your choice. Immortal Music chooses to reserve all judgement and thoughts on the matter for right now.
