Black & White -The Maine

Though some fans of this Arizonian pop-rock band may disagree, I t hink
Black And White is a very good album. Better than Can't Stop, Won't
Stop
, if you ask me.  This ten track album starts off with a very fun,
upbeat song, that at first sounded very sexual to me. "Don't Stop Now", saying,
"You can rough me up, you can break me down. Baby, don't stop now." could be taken in a dirty way, but its really just saying they can do what they want as
long as they stick around. That they're happy to be yours.
The second track on the album, "Right Girl" is all about going out to a bar one night and winding up having a one night stand with something, then regretting it. Turns out, that girl ends up being an amazing person and you can't get them off your mind. "And I got my standbys waiting on the line, but the hardest part is knowing that it won't be her this time."
"Growing Up", the third track on the album, really said something to me. When I wrote this review, I, and most of my friends, had just graduated high school. This song is all about the teenagers that are about to grow up and enter the real world. Growing up isn't easy, and it isn't always fun, but the song says, "Growing up won't bring us down." Its basically just trying to look on the bright side, and reminising on the good memories that'll help make it easier. That's really what the song is all about. Its one of the slower songs on the album, even though it is not really slow at all.
Not all of the tracks are noteable in my book, but my personal favorites are the second track, "Right Girl", and the seventh track, "Listen To Your Heart". "Listen To Your Heart" is all about not leting others influence your opinions and actions, and to follow your own heart. Espeically when it comes to someone you love. People will always try to talk you out of things in your life. Sometimes they'll have valid reasons, but its not up to them. Its up to you to decide what you do in your life.
While I do like the entire album, I felt for the most part is was
more so fun than meaningful. A lot of the songs on the album do have well
thought out lyrics, but the main focus seemed to be the peppy beats. I still
feel this album is better, and more entertaining than Can't stop, Won't
Stop
, however. I do recommend this album to anyone who wants to hear more
from The Maine, or anyone who would just like music you can get up and dance to if you wanted to.
I give this album four stars, due to the fact that the lyrics could be better on some of the songs.
