Tattoos are something incredible that are only just becoming normal to have. They're a silent way to express yourself, and they are a way to keep something close to you forever. They're one of the few permanent things in life, and they're definitely not for everyone. That being said, they definitely are for us. Myself and my mother have six music related tattoos between the two of us, referencing Five Finger Death Punch, Art Of Dying, Papa Roach and A Day To Remember, and more are being planned. Now you probably are wondering why I'm even talking about this, right? There's actually a couple of reasons for this. The first is pure and simple because I honestly love tattoos. I love hearing people talk about their tattoos, and explain why they have it. There tends to be interesting stories connected to tattoos, and no two tattoos have the same story, even if they're the same tattoo. The second reason was actually slightly random. As you probably noticed, we've been talking about a music festival quite a bit called Rock Allegiance. We've already explained why we want to go, which you can read here if you're interested, but it randomly dawned on us something we hadn't touched on ever really here on the site. The tattoos we have, and have in mind for some of the artists playing this amazing festival. The main focus I actually wanted to make was my mom's tattoos for this because she currently has two different Five Finger Death Punch tattoos, and has a third in mind already. The two she currently has are both references to "Remember Everything", which is on their American Capitalist album. She first got this in March of 2013, and then added to it later on. It is actually a memorial piece for her grandparents, who passed away in April 2012 and September 2013. They meant the world to her, and she wanted to get something to honor them, and this happened to be the way she chose to do it. The reason for the quote, "I always will remember everything" is because of everything they did for her. Then for Christmas last year, she got another one that is still a work progress. It currently looks like this; But, on September 10, exactly one month before the Rock Allegiance festival, actually, she is going to get it completely reworked by a different artist. The new artist actually sketched it out on her skin with nothing but sharpie markers and did a phenomenal job. The only thing not pictured below is the man on the path. That will be part of it, it just wasn't drawn out in sharpie before hand. Once its fully done, I will post a picture on Instagram or something, so be sure to follow me over there. The last one she currently has that I want to talk about is for Art Of Dying. It is their logo, and their mantra, "The art of dying is my life to live." I do believe she got the logo originally in 2012, and then got it touched up again in 2013. And then there's my tattoo. I got it in November 2012, and do plan on getting it touched up but its from "Scars" by Papa Roach. I've told the story far too many times I'm sure, but basically, that song describes me very well. I decided to get this quote because not all scars are psychical and every experience in your life does help make who you are. Plus, the entire song speaks to me, so it seemed very fitting to get this quote. I am still considering getting "My weakness is that I care too much" done as a tattoo, but I think I want that to be in a more hidden place so its not so out in the open. It is part of who I am, but at the same time, it seems like you're just asking to be taken advantage of if you have that prominently displayed somewhere. I also really want to get a Saint Asonia tattoo, but in order to do that I actually have to meet Adam Gontier. I am not going to give away that idea though, you guys are just going to have to wait to find out what that is whenever it finally happens.
Mom is also considering a third Five Finger Death Punch tattoo. She heard "Digging My Own Grave" and instantly got ideas, though I am not sure what exactly that idea was. So, you're going to have to wait for that as well!

Back in June, the Rock Allegiance festival was announced, and given the fact that it features many great acts, including some of my all time favorites, I couldn't resist applying.
The people in charge of the press for this incredible event requested that I make a directory of sorts of my content, so I wasn't sending multiple emails per week. More will be added here and there, so stay tuned! Total count: 83 It was announced today that Fall Out Boy is going to be covering "I Wanna Be Like You" as part of a Disney cover album, and obviously people got excited. Now, this is not the Punk Goes Disney fans have been dying for, but since this is happening, there's a high chance that could be allowed in the future!
Because of that, we started thinking....who should be featured on a future Punk Goes Disney album? This isn't an original idea, people have come up with combos for a handful of years now, but this is some ideas we had! Here's the problem, there's so many Disney songs and even more bands, so it was incredibly hard to decide who would do what best. These may not be the ultimate best one, but we just threw something together. These are not restricted at all, we kind of just went through our library of music and picked out artists. Who do you think should do a Disney cover? What song do you want them to do? Let us know! There's so many combinations, and it took so long to come up with. We also did repeat movies a bit, but we did not put two different covers of the same song on this list! Just there is two from Frozen and The Little Mermaid on the list. 1. Under The Sea (The Little Mermaid) -All Time Low 2. Do You Want To Build A Snowman? (Frozen)- Panic! At The Disco. 3. Hakuna Matata (The Lion King) - As It Is 4. Reflection (Mulan) -Pierce The Veil 5. A Whole New World (Aladdin)- Fall Out Boy 6. Beauty And The Beast -Of Mice And Men 7. I Wanna Be Like You (Jungle Book)- A Day To Remember 8. For The First Time In Forever (Frozen)- Halestorm 9. I'll make a Man Out Of You (Mulan) -Avenged Sevenfold 10. Part Of Your World (The Little Mermaid)- Memphis May Fire Now for the most part, there wasn't full reasons for why I picked what. They just happen to be ones I thought would do the songs justice. The only ones that had true meaning behind the choices were All Time Low doing "Under The Sea" and Pierce The Veil doing, "Reflection." The reason I picked All Time Low for "Under The Sea" was completely because of the iconic lyric, "Under the sea, under the sea. Down where its better, down where its wetter -take it from me." We all know they were just stating the obvious with the lyric -he's talking about the ocean. However, once we all devoloped out dirty minds, we stopped taking it at face value and began talking it from the gutter's point of view. All Time Low is known for being a bunch of perverts, so it just seemed fitting. Plus its a fun, upbeat song, so that fits All Time Low's sound very nicely. As for PTV covering "Reflection" from Mulan, it was actually because of the lyrics of the song. Pierce The Veil songs tend to be very deep, and tend to be personal. This song was the same way, and its all about wanting to bring your inner self to the surface. We just felt like Pierce The Veil would really connect with this song and do it beautifully. So, there you have it. There's our idea of Pop Goes Disney! There's no right or wrong, and there isn't one in existence yet! Hopefully Disney gets on that soon, but meanwhile we can all dream and you can find all sorts of Disney covers online already! Like we asked earlier, please let us know what covers you want to see come into existence! This was a lot of fun to put together and we geniunely do want to see what you come up with. We're all influenced by someone, right? Family, friends, musicians, actors, life events, ect. The list goes on, but it recently dawned on me that I have never actually talked about this topic at all.
I mean, in a way, yes, I have. I've talked about my favorite bands and my influences do lineup with that list quite a bit. As I've said multiple times in the past, my favorite bands are Papa Roach, Saint Asonia, Shinedown, Art Of Dying and All Time Low. All Time Low really hasn't had an active impact on me, but some lyrics have and they never cease to make me laugh with their antics. However, the others have both directly, and indirectly affected me in some way. I will start with the direct ones, which is Art Of Dying and Shinedown. Now I probably will be going more in depth with both stories in a different post soon, but I will briefly explain. Cale Gontier from Art Of Dying was my first ever in person interview, back in 2011, and all of Art Of Dying just was something special. They were incredibly sweet, and fun. They actually let myself, my mom, and two of my friends hang out with them for several hours after the show. Had they not been as incredible as they were that night, frankly, I probably would have given up all of this by now. That night gave me a lot of insight and hope to what was possible. I've had plenty of other really cool experiences after that, but none have been quite like that night. I will never forget that, and it really set me up for the perfect start. Then Shinedown, I sat down and interviewed their guitarist, Zach Myers and his best friend who's also very talented, Justin Moore. As if that wasn't exciting enough, two days after the show, Shinedown shared the article I wrote about the night of Zach and Justin's acoustic show. Them doing that might seem minor, but it actually ended up being a game changer. Since then, the view count on Immortal Music has gone drastically up, and bigger offers have come my way. That little thing made such a massive impact and I honestly can't thank them enough for that. Then there's Papa Roach and Saint Asonia. Now I haven't met anyone from either band yet, so that's why this is indirect, but they've had massive impacts lyrically. I hate to be this person, but I have to be for a second. With Saint Asonia, its more so Adam Gontier. His lyrics have always spoken to me on a personal level, that I can't really explain. Discovering Three Days Grace and connecting with his lyrics, honestly is what sparked my love of music. Because of that, I say he really helped make me who I am today. Had I not discovered my love of music, I would be living a totally different life, so that honestly means the world to me. As for Papa Roach, I can't totally explain why they're important to me. Their lyrics do speak to me, but their more recent albums connect with me personally. Previous to the Time For Annihilation album, only one song truly spoke to me, and that was "Scars." I liked other songs, don't get me wrong, but they didn't seem to scream 'me'. "Scars" did that perfectly to the point that I do have lyrics from that song on my body, and am considering another tattoo from the same song. Then there's songs like "Leader of The Broken Hearts", "Still Swingin', "Face Everything And Rise", "Skeletons", "Broken As Me"...they're just something special to me. These are just some of the people that are special to me, and there are specific lyrics that I really connect with from other artists as well. Like "Dedication takes a lifetime and dreams only last for a night." from All Time Low, "If you take it from me live your life for yourself. 'Cause when its all said and done, you don't need anyone else." from A Day To Remember, and so many others. I really love music in general, but obviously, we all have ones that stand out to just a little bit more than others. Let me know who has really inspired you, and how. There's probably a lot of interesting answers out there, and I really want to know what you guys have to say. (Pssstttt.. I feel compelled to mention that Papa Roach, Saint Asonia and Art Of Dying all will be at the Rock Allegiance Festival along side incredible acts like Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch, Godsmack, Bring Me The Horizon and more! The festival is October 10, and Immortal Music may possibly be there.) Dear people of Rock Allegiance,
Hello. Yeah, hi, its me again. The girl that's been contacting you on and off with new content, and questions. I apologize for being a pain in the ass, but hopefully you understand why you're being bombarded by all of those who are bombarding you with questions and links. Everyone's excited, and those who are genuinely interested in covering this festival, are simply trying to prove it. It dawned on me all the sudden though, that maybe that's not enough. Sure, you can post a hundred times about something, and the dedication does say a lot about how much you want it. However, those who are holding the event rarely ever hear why someone wants to cover an event and what it may mean to them. Perhaps they never hear the reasons. I mean, I know, I've never been asked why I want to cover an event by a festival coordinator. Its possible that they don't even care, but if I was the one choosing who got to cover my event, I think I would want to know why they want to do it. Many will definitely say its because it sounds cool and it would be one hell of an opportunity. That's undeniably true, but for me it goes much deeper than a great coverage opportunity. Frequent readers of my website know who my favorite bands are, and more than likely have heard me talk about my dream concert lineup at some point in the past. Rock Allegiance is as close as it's probably going to get. Other big festivals are happening right about the same time with other variations, but this one is special. This one not only features three of my favorites, Art Of Dying, Saint Asonia and Papa Roach, but also features my mom's all time favorite, Five Finger Death Punch. If I get this, she will finally get to see them after missing them several times in the past. 5FDP doesn't play very many indoor venues, and we live in Florida, so its ungodly hot most of the year. She can't handle that, and the one time she tried, she nearly passed out within a few hours. This was not because she wasn't taking care of herself, she was, she just couldn't take the heat. We're always saying festivals should be later in the year, so its not so hot, but somehow all the big festivals that come around, come in the summer time. So this one, having an incredible lineup, and at a good time of year in an area that probably won't be hot that time of year, was simply too good to pass up. I hesitated to apply, because it is 17 hours away, but something kept telling me to do it. The feeling wasn't going away, so for shits and giggles, I looked up the press person for the event. The press lady is the same one I have worked with for Uproar 2012 and 2014, and Fort Rock. That settled it, and I applied. Honestly, I expected to never hear back, just because of the distance, but it was one of those things I couldn't pass up trying. Then while a crowd was dispersing at the 2015 Vans Warped Tour, just after a performance from Escape The Fate, my phone buzzed. I assumed it was a text message, but it was actually an email. The email more or less stated that I made it past the first level of consideration for Rock Allegiance and someone would be in contact with me closer to the event. My reaction may have been sparked by the 'high' I was already on from seeing a great band who I always enjoy live, at an event the band I manage got on, but for the first time ever, I had an unprofessional reaction. I read the email, said "Oh my god!" out loud, causing my friends to ask, "What?" I just looked up and yelled, "I'M BEING CONSIDERED FOR ROCK ALLEGIANCE." Or something like that. I am recalling something that happened almost a month ago, keep in mind. This was proceeded by a bit of a flail and a hug tackling of a friend, because like I said earlier, this is about as close to my dream concert lineup as I am going to get. My biggest reasons for wanting to go are Papa Roach and Saint Asonia. I have seen Papa Roach twice now, twice this year, in fact. But they mean a lot to me, to the point that I do have one of their lyrics tattooed on my body. And both shows have given me some incredible experiences, indirectly involving Papa Roach. I'm secretly hoping the third time is the charm. I have special memories connected to Art of Dying. Had they not been so friendly, kind, and just all around incredible musicians and people the night I met them, frankly, I don't think I'd still be doing this today. Cale Gontier, and their ex manager, TJ were my first interview, and I actually stayed at this venue until 2:30 in the morning just chatting with the band. They set a precedent that has stuck with me for the past four years. Did I mention I was only 18 at the time, and this was only my fourth interview ever? That night is so full of memories for me that frankly, I will never forget and I cherish a lot. I thank Art Of Dying for keeping me going with this ,I really do. There's been so many times I've wanted to quit this because I will admit, it does get frustrating! It gets discouraging and frankly, it gets down right depressing sometimes. But on the flip side of that, there are incredible experiences. Like getting to sit down and talk to these musicians that genuinely love what they do and want to share it with the world. I've had a special place in my heart for music my entire life, but that really kicked in fully when I was fourteen/ fifteen. A time hit where I felt alone, and this was right as I was making myself get into rock music. I turned to music for help, to drown out what I was feeling, and to this day there's been one voice in particular that helped the most. That voice was Adam Gontier, formerly of Three Days Grace, now of Saint Asonia. I may thank Art Of Dying for keeping me going with this career, but I thank Adam for making me who I am today. Had I not discovered Three Days Grace, I don't think I would have gotten into music to this level. I would have never wanted to become a music journalist, therefor, I wouldn't be writing this. I wouldn't be remotely the same person, I can tell you that. So facing a possible chance to finally sit down and speak with the man that changed my life, is something you can't give up without a fight. That's not my only reason, of course. Its an incredible event. Any time you get so many legends like Rob Zombie, Korn, Godsmack, and Papa Roach together, you know you're in for one of those nights you will never forget. Covering huge events is a hectic thing, I'm not going to lie. Every show where I have a pass ends up stressing me out at some point, even if its just for a moment. Something does always go wrong, sometimes on a massive scale, but those moments when you find yourself sitting in special press area, or a tour bus, chatting with someone who has shared countless experiences through music all over the world, or are in front of a barricade and you get the perfect picture..It takes the concert magic and heightens it by a thousand. Then imagine involving your favorite bands with all of that? That's an indescribable thing. This is a once in a lifetime thing, or it feels that way anyways. I want the magic, I want to do this more than anything I've wanted to do so far. This would be an unforgettable adventure to a new place, to the biggest event of my career so far. for not only me but my mom, and you guys because I plan on vlogging a ton for this whole trip. I don't know, maybe words can't full explain it. Just know that if I get chosen, I will be incredibly honored and probably won't stop talking about it for quite some time. Thank you for putting up with my excitement, and my consistent plugs for the festival to everyone out there. Not even online but in person, too. I appreciate your support a lot and I just had to get all of this off my chest, I suppose. Sincerely, Ariel May, Founder of Immortal Music |
