I regret to inform everyone that I will not be interviewing Of Mice & Men on February 4, 2014. After being shuffled between four separate people, I was informed that Of Mice & Men was unavailable for an interview.
The email said exactly this, leaving out the names of the person who I spoke with. "Thanks for reaching out and apologies for the run around. Unfortunately we are going to have to pass on this; the band doesn't do many video interviews and have a pretty packed schedule that day. But best of luck and we appreciate your interest!" This would be a totally acceptable answer, if it weren't for a couple of very important factors. The first being, as soon as I heard that The American Dream tour was confirmed; I emailed someone and started this whole process. I know it’s not 'first come, first serve', but still, I'd be a bit more understanding had I waited last moment to contact anyone. The second factor being, I never said it had to be filmed. I was sent to the lady who told me this because it was going to be published online. I said "It'll be on my website, Immortal Music, and if it is filmed, it will be on my YouTube channel." I did not say it had to be filmed; I just said if it was, that's where it'd be. I'd say that part was all that was latched onto, but frankly, I don't think I ever stood a chance. I was getting slightly suspicious after I was sent to the third person, but kept trying anyways because I had not been given a flat out no. Frankly, I've gotten the feeling that management companies, while they are supposed to help, often don't help. Management and PR companies only seem to care about the big leagues, they don't care anymore. If it’s not going to benefit whoever their client happens to be immensely, or it’s not a big name person, they want nothing to do with it. This may not be true for all; I'm just speaking from experience. If I’m quite honest, it’s unfair. You need experience to get experience, in any field, but yet hardly anyone is ever willing to give you any experience. It’s a vicious, pointless, endless cycle. Needless to say, I am horribly disappointed, and I apologize to anyone else that is disappointed as well. I wish the bands had some say so in what all they get to do. It sounds like they get less say so in their own careers every day, and I personally wonder if that right there is what’s ruining the music business. The artists themselves, the one with the pure love and passion for music, and helping others, are simply told what to do by people who are just in it primarily for money. Its rotten, to say the least.

When words fail, music speaks, and when music speaks, so much can change. Which is my a good friend of mine decided to make a website with that title. I also will be helping contribute from time to time, just because I love to write and she invited me to contribute!
If you are interested, please feel free to check it out at whenmusicspeaks.com. The website is primarily based out of Miami, Florida, and will from time to time have news on local events there, as well as some others in neighboring towns. No worries though, if you do not live in Southern Florida, there is still plenty of content that applies to all. The website just went live today, but there's plenty to see already there. Also, if you're curious to see what I contributed, that can be found here. Please don't forget to check When Music Speaks out on Facebook, and follow it on Twitter. Quite some time ago now, I announced that I was working on trying to interview Of Mice And Men on the American Dream Tour. This tour is selling out, in fact just under half of it has sold out. It appears as though people are quite excited to see a lineup of Bring Me The Horizon, Of Mice And Men, Issues and Letlive.
As exciting as this is for the bands, and fans alike, that fact has left this journalist in a state of concern. I am hoping to attend the second date of the tour, which is on February fourth, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Unfortunately, that date sold out before I was able to purchase a ticket. All hope is not lost though, I am still working on possibly attending anyways, but some things are up in the air. I originally asked for the interview over a month ago, and was forwarded to another guy. This guy has been as helpful as he possibly can be, and I appreciate that greatly. He's doing the best he can, and to add to that, he sent me to another person that I'm sure will do the same thing. My concern is just rising, due to the fact that the show is two weeks away and I am still unsure if I will be getting this chance or not. Not to mention, its a three hour drive across the state, just for financial reasons, I need more than a day's notice. So, if anyone out there is reading this, please join me in the crossing of fingers and toes whilst hoping with everything I've got, that this interview will happen. Also, if you have any questions for Of Mice And Men, please send them to me in a message on Facebook. That is the easiest place to reach me at. Just please do me a favor, do not just ask me to tell Austin Carlile things. If you wish to tell him something, you can do it yourself by Tweeting him at @Austincarlile. I cannot spend my entire time with the band relaying messages to Austin Carlile. Not to mention, I do not know who I am going to get for the interview, and there are other very important members of the band too. Always keep that in mind, for every band. Its not just the singer that counts, every member is important. |
