Sevendust is an alternative metal band from Atlanta, Georgia that formed originally in 1994. Over the years, they had a few name changes before the name Sevendust finally came about. Names included Snake Nation, Rumblefish, Crawlspace, and probably more. Its best they stuck with Sevendust -just imagine going to see a metal band called Rumblefish? It just doesn't sound great. Rumors had it that the band is named Sevendust after bassist, Vinnie Hornsby saw a pesticide, Sevin Dust in his grandmother's garage. They must have liked the way it sounded, since that's the name that stuck. They did release a few things under the old names, but that was in the late 1999s, and they didn't get extremely far. Crawlspace actually released a song called, "My Ruin", on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack in 1996. Then they got sent a notice from another band called Crawspac, wanting $50,000 for the right s to their name. Rather than fight them, they just changed their name to Sevendust and moved on with their lives. Sevendust finally released their debut, self titled album on April 15, 1997. That album became known for the songs, "Black", "Bitch" and it featured "My Ruin", which they had previously released on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. "Black" actually became the opening song for every Sevendust show until 2004, we're not sure what they open with now. Maybe they will give everyone a throwback now and then and play this one. This album appeared on the Billboard 200, and stayed there for sixteen weeks. It peaked at 165 on in April 1998, and went gold on May 19, 1999. Their success has continued to grow over the years, as every album has peaked fairly high on charts all over the world. Almost every album has reached the Top 50, and many have reached the top 10. Their first three albums, Sevendust, Home, and Animosty have all recieved Gold certifications from the RIAA, and surely others will come in the future. Their highest chart rating is their 2013 album, Black Out The Sun. It reached number one on the US Hard Rock Charts! It also reached number 18 on the Billboard 200 and 5 on the US Rock Charts. So clearly, the US loved that album. Their international success appears to still be growing, but chart wise, their highest rating came from their 2003 album, Seasons, as it reached number 20 on New Zealand's music charts. Their latest album, Kill The Flaw, which came out in October 2015, peaked US Hard Rock, and Rock Charts at number 2, and the Billboard 200 at number 13. It too has been very successful, and fans are still loving it and their older music now. Sevendust is known for songs like "Unraveling" (Cold Day Memory, 2007), "Decay" (Black Out The Sun, 2013), "Enemy", (Seasons, 2003), "Angels Son", (Animosity, 2001), and "Denial" (Home, 1999.) They're also extremely active today, as they will be going on tour around Australia this March with Silence The City. They then get a little bit of time off before beginning a US tour with Trivium and Like A Storm. In the mist of the tour, they will also be performing at several of the massive festivals around the US, such as Fort Rock, Welcome To Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, Northern Invasion, Rock On The Range, and Rock N' Derby. Their tour fun ends May 27, and you can get further information on Sevendust's official website.
