Do you want to be a rockstar? You don't need to be glamourous, fake, or for that matter even musical talent isn't nessicary. Yes, you read that correctly. You don't need to be talented on the guitar, or have a sexy singing voice. All you need, is the drive and passion to get what you want.
You can be a rockstar, without going for a music oriented goal at all. A rockstar, isn't always someone who pours their heart and soul into their music every night in front of thousands. It can also be the girl who walks around the mall dressed in zebra striped pants, not caring about what other people may think. Have you ever noticed how rockstars carry themselves? Some know they're hot shit, and act like a cocky asshole because of it, but others act just like a normal person. All the while, they give off an aura of confidence, and happiness. A true rockstar, whether its the typical type or not, just believes in themselves, appericates the support they get, and works hard to get where they want to be. Most things are not going to come easy to you, and nothing will be handed to you on a silver platter. You have to want something, and go for it. There will be obsticals along the way, and some will be more challanging than others. If you really want what's at the end though, that won't stop you. Others may help you get where you want to be, but in the end, your dream is yours. Why should you count on someone else to get you there? Its all about working hard. Not only will you gain the skills, but you'll feel more acomplished once you get your goal. Your dream can control your life. Let it! For example sake, I'm going to use myself as an example. I want to be a music journalist, and I know that's not an easy goal to get. No matter what it is, you have to live, breathe, eat, and sleep your passion. It sounds weird, but go with it. For me, every day, I listen to music, write about music, and plan to write even more. Also, how you look can effect where you go in life. Looks are by far, not everything, but they do make an impression. If I go to Alternative Press, a magazine who mostly reports on the latest news in rock music, dressed like I should be the secratary for the President, do you really think they're going to believe I'm truly passionate about my work? No, of course not! So instead, I wear the band T-shirts and bracelets, and Converse. It not only expresses who I am, but what I am for. By the way, that's not telling you that you can't be dressed one way, and have a completely different dream. Clothes do not make the person, I'm just saying that they do leave an impression, so depending on where you're going that day, it may be a good idea to dress a certain way. Its really no different than wearing a gown or tux to a formal party. You just have to dress accordingly. Practice, practice, practice! A lot of the time, people forget this. You're not going to improve if you don't practice. If you're a musician, obviously, you seem to think of this more, just because you won't get the hang of it until you've played a song so many times. This goes for anyone. Why do you think I write so much? Its practicing! That, and the more material I have, the more people may believe that I am truely passionate about this. It shows I've done my homework, and I've got the drive. That's something else too, there are other people who do what you do. They can help you out, so make connections. I write, and have this website. So, I not only have a Facebook page that I do often post links on, but I've asked others to advertize for me. I asked BryanStars to share my link in a video one day last week. He didn't do it, but you know what? That's still how you do it. You try. I also have been trying to get more practice with interviews. You can do that anywhere, talk to local bands, add them on YouTube, add their Facebook pages, follow them on Twitter. Is there a chance they'll never see your messages? Absolutely, but they won't see them at all if you don't post it. So far, I have landed two interviews. I got Jason Nott because the Drive A boys told all fans to add them on Facebook. I did so, and got the idea, and took the chance. I am currently awaiting an answer from First Class College because they messaged me! That's something too, if you have a YouTube account, and get what looks like spam from a band, do not ignore it. It has been my experience that a lot of the bands that are still up and coming will ask various people to listen to a song of theirs. Don't ignore them! Help them out, listen to their song, and then write them back with your opinion. Or take the opprounity even and ask for an interview. You can do it on the web, it doesn't have to be in person. Also, if you want to get really good, you may want to start taking come classes. For me, it'd be journalism classes, or specficially music journalism if I can find such courses. Check with your comminuty classes, or about some online ones. They may be cheaper, so you won't be thousands of dollars in debt. Talk to local bands too, chances are they'd be tickled to do an interview with you, just because they want the practice. If they ever want to get anywhere, they know eventually they'll be doing interviews. Doing an interview with you would not only be good practice, but whoever sees your interview just may check out their band. It helps everyone. You also can't be stuck up about it. Appericate the support you get, and do not let it go to your head. People will not always be around you to help out, and if they defentily won't want to help you if you're an ass about it. "Live like you're at the bottom, even if you're at the top." Really, being a rockstar in your life, is easy. You just have to own it, live it up, and work hard. Do let it consume you, while still being an honest good person about it. If its your dream, clearly its you, so you won't be fake about it no matter what. So go be a rockstar! If you want to see where I got the inspiration to write this, go watch the bonus features on Disney's Camp Rock DVD. I basically just put what they said, and tweeked it a lot. It made a lot of sense to me, and I felt it had a good message to it.
